97procraft Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 My rod and reel budget is usually around $100 each also. I purchased a medium heavy BPS Carbon Lite rod last year and love it. I don't know about their other rods. I was going to get a medium rod for throwing cranks, but I found a good deal on a carrot stick. My next rod I buy will be a Carbon Lite. My advise would be wait until March when Bass Pro and Cabela's have their spring sales, and find nice $120-$150 rod or reel for under $100.
Members zzjonze Posted December 7, 2010 Members Posted December 7, 2010 My favorite under$100 is the Abu Garcia Veritas. I also have 2 Medium heavy Kistler rods way over $100 but I like the Veritas rods better. Especially for jigs, plastic, spinnerbaits and shakeyheads. Just Sayin! ZZ

MOsmallies Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Shimano Compre - Great rod and even better lifetime warranty. I own 3 of them (1 spinning and 2 baitcasting) and love 'em. Just my $.02
TRRANGER Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Temple Fork Outfitters makes a good rod for $99 at Tacklewarehouse. I agree TFO rods are really nice. Gary Loomis helped design them. You can also get them locally at The Anglers Edge in Ozark 581-FINS. Ty is really helpful also. TR
Members FLYFISHINMAN Posted December 9, 2010 Members Posted December 9, 2010 Cabela's has there titanium rods on sale now for $90. Originally $190. Nice rod. Flexible guides. Lifetime replacement. These are closeouts. The clerk said if you break it in the future, you will get the new style. They still have several at the Hazelwood store.
ollie Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Falcon. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Mike Worley Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I agree Falcon makes a really good rod (I have a couple of them) Ugly Stik lite is reasonable for the money, but the line guides are poor quality (the inserts have a tendency to fall out of the frame if the rod is torqued in the rod box) Regular Ugly Stiks don't seem to have as much problem and are OK for trolling IE: leadcore. If you want a 100% American made rod that is top quality and reasonably priced I recommend Rebrod located in Flippin, Arkansas (72634) They make their own rod blanks and have produced high end rods for many of the top name brand rods for more than 30 years. They have a website (www.dorber.com/) But if you can stop by the factory you will find many great rods in the show room at really unbelievable prices that are not shown on the website. I have a rod locker full of these rods and I can wear out most rods in a few years but these are top of the line in every way and I just can't remember when one has failed. Pretty much all of my casting rods both spinning & baitcasting come from this factory. I think the quality is on a par with G-Loomis, Falcon & All Star. Most of which are priced above the $100 mark. NO I am not sponsored by Rebrod, YES- I am really impressed by their product. You can find Rebrod / DobeR at 211 East Industrial Park Road (it will be a low profile metal factory building) located behind the U.S. Post office and next to the water treatment plant in Flippin, AR 72634 the phone number is 870-453-8500. If you do contact these folks please mention that Mike Worley told you about their product.
