fishinwrench Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I cant recall a memorable snow since I moved back to Missouri in 1992. Cheers. I dunno, Gavin. I think the big snows we used to get when we were younger, were memorable because they were FUN... Whereas NOW that we are all grown up, consumed with more serious things, and basically more boring....big snows are a PIA Heavy snows (12-15") crushed roofs of docks and condos by the hundreds here at the Lake in 1995, 1999, 2007,and again in 2008 What I don't remember getting so much of when I was younger though is ice storms, and we used to love to skate so I know I would remember an ice storm like the ones we seem to get at least twice every Winter now that I'm too fat and lazy to go ice skating.
podum Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 wrench, that's hillarious and consistent with my own recollections I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
gotmuddy Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Dano -- I tend to lean that way too. We really need to look long-term, but that's not a popular stance on this thing -- or anything these days. Temperatures have been rising for thousands of years. How much is 'natural' and how much is man-made? How much can we change, and how much is beyond our power? How much is a threat, and how much is just the way it's gotta be? I personaly feel that to think we can do anything to positively affect the world climate at this time is absurd. IF we could get unbiased testing it would be possible to find out, but that is very likely never going to happen. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

IF we could get unbiased testing it would be possible to find out, but that is very likely never going to happen. Muddy, why is it absurd? We certainly have the capability. A few dozen nuclear explosions would do it a whole lot quicker and more severely than what's happening now. We proved we could screw up the ozone layer with just one class of aerosol chemicals...and when we phased them out, the hole stopped growing after a while. We've proved in the past that we could really mess up the atmosphere over every major city and cause all kinds of health problems, and we've partially fixed that as well. There is NO place on earth, not the wilderness areas, not the Arctic, not even the Antarctic, where you can't find man-made chemicals that got there by wind and water. You can't find a single critter that doesn't have man-made chemicals in their bodies. There are 6.5 billion of us and climbing steadily, and we've altered most of the earth in very obvious ways (that are for the most part extremely destructive to a lot of the native creatures). We have either succeeded or are in the process of wiping out species on a par with the kind of mass extinctions that wiped out the dinosaurs. I find it absurd to think that we COULDN'T have a major effect on the climate. Sorry...just can't keep from getting into a discussion!
Gavin Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Dunno FW...we had allot of snow back in the 70's & 80's...not so much in the last 20 years...93 was a good year for snow...but I cant recall year with much of it since then...where can you find snowfall statistics?
Gilly Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 No...... well, yes. But then, uh, no. www.drydock516.com
flytyer57 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I personaly feel that to think we can do anything to positively affect the world climate at this time is absurd. What is absurd is the amount of damage we (humans) have already done to destroy this planet. What is absurd is that there are some among us that are so stubborn that they do not want to try to fix the mess we made. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Sorry...just can't keep from getting into a discussion! you have good points, but equally opposed by the fact that if you leave something alone the earth cleanses itself. look at how fast things are overtaken when left alone. If EVERYONE on the planet disappeared the earth would be back to the way it was within a century(which is a tiny blip in the life of the earth). everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Gavin Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Dunno man...who would win in a Dino Fight? Giganatosaurus or T. Rex?....wont be long before we've pooched this planet...might as well start taking care of it....Admittedly, I'm not the best steward..but I could get better...How bout you?
