Members pwspivey Posted January 8, 2011 Members Posted January 8, 2011 I'm familiar with the park and stream, but not the nick names of all the holes. Can someone layout the nick names from the spring to the river? If yes, it will help me (and others) keep up with the jargon. If you go to Larry's they have a map of the stream and all the holes. I think u can buy the map for $20 also.

fishinwrench Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Trout Talk magazine (I guess you could call it a "magazine") printed an article and map with the most commonly recognized nickname holes several years ago, also explaining how the supposedly earned their respectve nicknames. You could probably google it up.

Most of the nicknames have been around since I first fished at bssp back in the 60's. How many can remember the "whirlpool hole" ? The 86 flood waters pretty much wiped it out, along with the angled wing dams in the middle of zone one. When they started dredging the creek, most, if not all, of the holes changed dramatically. Along with the dredging came the over abundance of moss in the deeper holes. The scud population went down, and the sowbugs flourished.

fishinwrench Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Well in JoCo's defense.... We all know what a Johnson is, but WTH is a "Wyandotte" ?
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The stream has changed so much that many of the "holes" are now places. I can think of a lot of holes that were actually holes, but now are just places between changes in bank landmarks. As for gut places, they've always been there and are a good recycling of the stream mass. They aren't the top fish catching areas, the early morning fishing in the stocked area will out-produce any gut area. The parks are for everyone and if you're a "purist" who doesn't like that you're fishing in the wrong place. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
