Bman Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 We had a great day at the park with my best fishing buddy, my son Matt. We found pods of stupid rainbows eager to bite! They loved white and pink S.J. worms on Matt’s rod. I used a scud, midge dropper and had a blast. We are always looking for the special big one; we didn't really find them in the park, although Matt did spot a couple big Smallie's. I found the big fish of the day down in the river below the park! The 'Bow delivered a vicious strike on a big streamer on 4X tippet! I was showing the butt end of the Winston 5wt to this fish in the deep swift riffle! Yahhh! A very strong healthy river run Rainbow! It was a violent fight over rather quickly considering the heavy tippet, unlike some that use 7X tippet and end up over stressing the fish. This fish was released feeling rather sassy! What a blast! The only good line is a tight line
fishinwrench Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Nice ! Boy you stuck her perfect too. Let's talk about that streamer Fur strip or marabou ?
laker67 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Nice fish Bruce. What do you think happened to the big boy that you saw earlier in the season? I am glad that you and Matt had a great day fishing. Hope to see you guys on the creek.
ohmz138 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Beleive me Laker, we were lookin. We saw other decent ones but not the one we were looking for. We watched that area for a good while two different times in the day looking for it. He can't hide forever, well maybe. We did see tons of other fish though, nothing real terribly special.
Bman Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Nice ! Boy you stuck her perfect too. Let's talk about that streamer Fur strip or marabou ? It's a weighted version of Leonard's PMS. So yes to both. While I've got you on the line, my Mercury 200 Opti Sport Jet is about two years old and still running perfect. I would think that it's about time for a little routine maintenance. I'm in the St Louis area; do you know anyone that you would recommend? The only good line is a tight line

bikehikefish Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I'll jump in a a give a report. Fished it yesterday, caught a couple below the park, including a scrappy smallmouth before heading back up into MS. There are lots of fish that hit on the usual stuff (almost anything). Fishing picked up after the storm came through, but tornados make it tough to keep a tight loop. What worked? Cracklebacks of various sizes and colors, griffiths gats, chamois flies.
