Trout Commander Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 God's just mad Oprah got her own cable TV station. OAF needs a "Like" button the same as Facebook for this post alone! I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Guest csfishinfool Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 500 redwing blackbirds and stearlings were reported dead on a highway in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana on Monday, 3 days after the fallout in Beebe. I just read that story also. This is really freaky. But we will never hear the truth so whatever. "All of the birds looked like they had a collision with something really hard",said sources. Really a bird fell from several hundred feet and It looks like it hit something. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that what the birds collided into was the freaking ground.

jdmidwest Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Interesting thoughts on the God theory, I am sure some on here will consider 2011 the end of the world. Maybe this is one of the first in a series of plagues that will signal the end of time. Instead of locusts, it is redwing blackbirds. Anyone have any more info on the fish kill? What would target drum and nothing else? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

jdmidwest Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Zebra Mussels I see, the Zebra Mussels ganged up on them and forced them out of the water? Or was it the poison built up in the mussels that the drum ate that killed them? Or did they get a bad mussel, get a bad case of gas and were propelled out onto the bank where they died of exposure? Do fish fart? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 It's a conspiracy. The Zebra's read in the "Lake Sun Leader" about how the Drum were going to eat them all.... So they TCOB As for the birds, I'm hearing different things... were they blackbirds, red-winged blackbirds, or starlings ? I've read all three, depending on the source. I'm not buying the "scared to death from fireworks" theory, or the "high altitude invisable hail that radar couldn't detect" theory. This has reportedly happened before numerous times at scattered locations across the globe... so someone somewhere obviously knows what TRULY was the most likely cause.
Tim Smith Posted January 5, 2011 Author Posted January 5, 2011 What would target drum and nothing else? The state biologist said disease, and there is reason to agree with that since they are 99% of the kill. But what disease? Is 99% of the fish population in the Arkansas River made up of freshwater drum? Noooo. This one is a head scratcher. What usually kills fish in winter is hypoxia under ice. But there was no ice.

The hypoxia was what I was thinking since everything in SEMO was iced up last week, but was wondering why only the drum, but they may be the only fish in that stretch.
