Members TheBassAssasin Posted January 7, 2011 Members Posted January 7, 2011 If you could only have 3 different rod and reel setups to use for largemouth bass what would they be? For me I was thinking a worm setup, a crankin setup, and then maybe a Spinnerbait/buzzbait combo. What would you guys choose? A 9' 8wt would fit the bill to make it a single choice, but right now all I have are the 7wt & 9wt. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
fishinwrench Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Of course that's gonna depend on where you're fishing. But my 3 must haves for L.O, Truman, and Pomme would be.... a 6'6" med.heavy (fast) pitchin'stick w/17-20lb. a 6'6" med.(fast) pitchin'stick w/14lb. a 6' med. shorter handle casting rod (with some backbone but a softer tip) w/12 or 10lb.
rps Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Table Rock 7' MH fast action w/ 10-12 line for jig and carolina 7' M moderate action w/ 8-10 line for crankbait and finesse worm including split shot fish doctors 6'2" - 6'6" M fast action w/8-10 line for top water, spinner bait, and jerk bait The hole that is left is drop shot, small in line spinners, etc. That is why the fourth rod is a 6'8" Ex Fast Med Light w/6-8 line. Oddly, that rod is also the one I use for vertical spooning and small lipless cranks.
FishinCricket Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I mainly use the uglystick UL, but sometimes I use the longer one.... but not the real long skinny one.. (it ain't an uglystick) Unless he's a small bass.. cricket.c21.com

eric1978 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 If I was a reservoir fisherman with a bass boat, I'd have no less than five...jig rod, spinnerbait rod, crankbait rod, topwater rod, finesse rod. But I'm not. I'm a river fisherman with a canoe, so I carry three 6 footers: one mag-light, one med-light, and one medium. They cover most of the bases fairly well.

tjulianc Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 If I only could have three, then I would keep things pretty broad, nothing too specialized. I'd like to have one reel with fast retrieve like a Curado 200E7 for buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, and rattle traps, paired with a 7' med/hvy fast action. Then two moderately fast reels, like a Citaca 200E both with a 6'9" med fast rods. I would rig one with mono line, to give it a little stretch so I could fish cranks with it and Fluoro on the other for finesse worm or jig fishing, possibly cranks too. I'd put braid on the 200E7. I think that would cover all the basics, for me anyway.
Al Agnew Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Only thing I'd add is that it depends a lot on time of year and type of water. One rod I wouldn't want to do without would be a 6 ft. medium action spinning rig with something like 4/15 Power Pro braid. It would be kind of a finesse rig, but one of its main uses would be to skip tubes, flukes, and other stuff under docks.
