troutgnat Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Well, The boats in the shop for some touch ups and needed repairs. Gotta love winter! Time to hit the bench. I decided to play with airbrushing some spoons. I would be curious to know what you other fisherman/tackle builders are doing with your down time.??? motoman Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Very nice work! I'm doing the same, airbrushing cranks/swimbaits. Off to a slow start, as we're under the weather a bit at our house; but it's a GREAT way to pass the winter. I highly recommend it to any angler. - I'll have to admit, for years I was hesitant even touching an airbrush, as I didn't know the first thing about them, and I have NO artistic talent. But, after just a few hours of trial-and-error, I was addicted and making good progress. Heck, I started out just diluting the craft paint in those little bottles from Ya'll-Mart. Nothing fancy needed. These airbrush companies need to market their products better.
troutgnat Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Motoman, Too funny. You and I started out just a like. I did the very same thing. From there the gadgets began to grow. Now the wheels just keep a churnin'. Just the other day I began pondering the attempt of airbrushing my .22 rifle. Does it ever end? But for now these spoons got me addicted. Looks like we need to rob Denjacs' pocket book......LOL Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"

I'd really be ticked off if the weather was warm and sunny. Really good looking spoons.
Sam Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Pouring crappie jigheads - a cousin owns a tire shop here, and those free wheel weights help with this project every winter. I leave the big green fish to you bass guys, generally - with notable exceptions sometimes.

Good Morning: I am considering learning to air brush jigs and spoons with powder paint...what brand and model of air brush do you use. I looked at one at TJ's tackle but would like to hear from one who uses an airbrush to see how easily and effectively they operate. Thanks.....miket
Billfo Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Great idea to pass the winter... Where did you get these spoons ? Nice job, they look great. RSBreth Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I've been pouring jigs and casting bullets. Tying some big bass poppers for us fly guys. Can't wait for a little warm-up so I can hit the suspending jerkbait bite.
Ham Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The spoons look great. I'm not at all sure pretty paint jobs matter on a jigging spoon, but I am a sucker for a pretty paint job. I attend to tie up a BUNCH of Zebra midges. I use a lot of Zebra midges and I haven't been satisfied with the hooks in some of the commercial ones. I'm going to do a couple of sizes and a handful of colors and be DONE for a couple of years. There's also planting brush. I've called, but I haven't gotten to speak to anyone about a permit YET. I never dream of Table Rock, but I can't stop thinking about BSL in the springtime. Oh, the smallies I will catch. The walleye. The crappie. It's gonna be great. (actually is was still great last week, but it's getting too cold for me to enjoy being out). Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
