MstStudent10 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I started fishing with that Stren Fluorocast this fall. It is 100% fluorocarbon and it is $9.99 at Basspro. I was kind of skeptical using a fluorocarbon for under $10 but I have not had one problem with it, and that included a LOT of jig fishing with hard hooksets. No breakage (knock on wood). So it has been nice getting a good fluorocarbon (IMO) and for less than $10. Ps, the only reason that I used the phrase "skeptical using a fluoro for under $10" is because I have had some bad experiences with Berkley Vanish. Maybe it was just a bad spool or something, but had some problems with breakoffs on the hookset while throwing a spinnerbait and chatterbait. 3 breakoffs in one day and I know my knot tying ability isn't THAT bad . So that was the last experience with Vanish, but so far the Stren Fluorocast has been good AND cheap. Set the hook first, ask questions later...
RSBreth Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm mostly using hi-vis 4/10 Fireline or 4/15 Stren Superbraid as my main line, and then a leader about 7' or 8' long - Orvis Mirage fluorocarbon in either 1X or 2X. Like I have for years. This is on spinning tackle.
Members Matt Henry Posted January 22, 2011 Members Posted January 22, 2011 8 lbs XXX Pline is my go to line on Table Rock Lake. I have never had any luck with Florocarbon. I have tried Bass Pro's and had many break offs. Matt Henry
Members Jay E Posted January 22, 2011 Members Posted January 22, 2011 10 lb Seaguar invizx here. Deep cranks (DD22) mid range 10-12 and jerkbaits. I am curious to throw the new Stren Fluorocast like MstStudent mentioned, we have it on the shelf, just have 11" of ice up here. The price is right though. I have been burnt with other brands in years past, leave a lil more tag end on my knot, usually a palomar, sometimes a clinch knot, backed my drag off a bit, could be the line, could be the adjustments, works for me. Champ188 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I prefer 10-pound Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon for both crank baits and jerk baits. A cheaper alternative without losing much in performance is 10-pound Trilene Big Game.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I like the Seagar Invizex 10 lb Flourocarbon for both. This is a great line, but it is pricey. Mst Student has me interested in trying that Stren stuff. Even if it is a little less clear than the Seagar I could at least use it with crankbaits and other reaction baits. Thanks for the heads up.
