The government hasn't said that the billions poured into solar and wind will help us to any great degree, but that it will create jobs and make billionaires.

People keep complaining about the money that the government spends on alternative fuel sources, but seem to be ok with the BILLIONS they give to the already BILLIONAIRE oil companies every year so they can still overcharge at the pump.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Two wrongs don't make a right!

Yeah, because anything US owned and operated is impervious to disaster, right? Like the BP oil spill? Imagine if that was nuclear fallout instead...all over northern Arkansas. Yea! Mutations!

Nuclear fallout is caused by bombs, not by leaks. Even if a plant melts down(highly unlikely) the odds of a cloud of radioactive air is minimal at best.

BP is owned by a British company. The people operating the platform told the BP company man what was wrong and they refused to fix the problem.

If you had the choice would you have a coal fired plant, nuclear plant, or solar plant built within 10 miles of your home.

Nuclear plant hands down. they bring lots of jobs and money to the area. I went to high school within 15 miles of comanche peak power plant in glen rose, TX. The BEST winter bass fishing I have ever had.

Russia is no longer communist.

You sure about that? I wouldn't bet the farm. There are tons of old communists still in ruling positions in the government(Putin)

Wiki on the Chernobyl disaster:

"This event exposed the graphite moderator components of the reactor to air and they ignited; the resulting fire sent a plume of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive area..."

LOL So naive. Let me teach you, Grasshopper. The largest shareholder of BP is JP Morgan-Chase (28.4%), making them technically the "owners" of BP. An AMERICAN company. And the people who caused the leak itself? You guessed it...Halliburton. An AMERICAN company.

It's amazing what Google can do...you should try it before posting sometime.

Chernobyl had no containment structure and pitiful safety precautions. Comparing it to US nuclear plants is absurd, but not surprising coming from you.

40% is owned by British interests, 39% by US interests. The CEO is british. Link me to where the BOP not working was Halliburton's fault?

Are you sure you know what communism is? I'm not trying to preach to you, or read you the manifesto, but communism is a little bit more than a bunch of old dogs sitting in the house on the hill. I really think what you are more likely trying to get at is dictatorships don't care about people, and to that you would be somewhat correct. By default, all communist nations thus far have been dictatorships, but that is not necessarily vital to a communist political system. One dead give away to a communist nation is the lack of private personal property, and no religion. Those two along with labor requirements. But I guarantee you that even if some of the remains to the communist USSR days are intact that Russia is not a communist nation(although they might wish that they were).

Maybe I'm getting off on a tangent of my own here, but I really think that blanket statements such as those are out of line in today's information rich world. And let me put in a disclaimer, I'm not a communist, if I were I would not be attempting law school as that would not make fiscal sense.

Can you guess who mines 97% of all rare earth metals on this earth? China, that's who.

And Canada's one of the world's largest uranium producers. AND they have government run healthcare! AND they use the metric system! We better watch our neighbors to the north friends, I smell a plot....

Seriously though, it's interesting some of the folks most suspicious of Big Government and Big Business blindly trust the very same entities to safeguard the public against the issues surrounding nuclear energy (particularly waste disposal) for decades, or even centuries.

I'm not sure I'm willing to take that chance.

Aside from the issue of where to store reactor waste, I guess I just wonder if the cradle-to-grave costs of nuclear energy- economic, political, and environmental, are worth the trouble.

I can not see a time when a communist country is not led by a dictator. The form of government is all about taking freedoms away from the populace under the guise of protecting them.
