jdmidwest Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I filled the bunker, stashed another rank of firewood, drew some water, filled the propane bottles, polished the weapons, and made sure I have enough alcohol. Actually, I picked up a loaf of bread and a 12 pack. Can you believe all of the hype over this upcoming winter storm? Electric crews have been heading up I55 to the north all day from the southern states. It is all that has been on the news, almost like they know it is going to be catastrophic. Reports are all over the spectrum from rain, to 1" of ice, to 5 or 7 inches of snow. Personally, I look forward to a day off work and getting a little tying done on my new bench. Anyone have any weather yet? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Thom Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I have a good fried who is a meterologist and he often remarks. If we tell them the worst and it don't happen we get lots of flac as quacks. If we tell them the average or least and a catatorphe hits we all need to be fired. So we just try to use common sense. The storm coming through MO. right now is a huge downward swag and depends upon how the pressure system move the storm path. Right now it appears that much of the St. louis area could escape the worst. it did today. But if there is a shift in the downward (southward path of the storm as it did in 2006 it could be another disaster with thousands of families caught without heat or shelter. My son and his family had to abandon their house and stay in a motel for 2 weeks in 2006 from a storm that shifted into the metropolitian area. I give our cities, counties, state, and federal officials a lot of credit for taking the s cautious interest in our families even though it might be a wasted effort. Lets give them some credit for being pro active instead of being monday morning quarter backs if they do too much. Thom Harvengt
gotmuddy Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 wal mart was packed today. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
jdmidwest Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Gas station here was all pumps full and a few waiting at 3. This weekend was great, cleaned off the garden, mulched some leaves with the mower, and performed some other outdoor chores in my short sleeved t-shirt. Converted fishing boat from duck boat back to jon boat. Watched geese and ducks fly back all day Sat. Aren't they gonna be surprised... Bird Watcher Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I'm already eyeing the lab. She's definitely the meatier of the two dogs. If this thing plays out the way they are saying it's going to, I might have to go for the Pomeranian too. Top 5 things sold out at Wal Marts. #5 Maccaroni and Cheese #4 Canned meat to include Tuna and Spam #3 Camping Supplies to include batteries and Propane bottles #2 Water #1 The returning champ, bread and water I'm going to gather my loved ones and start praying before the evil frozen water from above starts falling. Gavin Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Snowpocalypes! Heck...I spent a buck twenty at the store tonight, but most was wine & beer....but we needed a jug o milk, some stuff to make some venison stew, and the fixins for some linguine with chicken livers, breakfast for a day or two... and some kiddo reqests...if it gets really bad...I might round up the backpack and walk there...might take a half hour one way....probably less.
Quillback Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 In NW AR it is sleeting, there was just a little ice this morning, now an inch or two of sleet has fallen. Lots of snow predicted. The forecast calls for -8 tomorrow night. That is ridiculous, I hope they are wrong.
Trout Commander Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 People act like it has never snowed before. We made a trip to Wal Mart last night because we did enjoyable things Sunday afternoon instead of our normal trip to the store for the coming weeks groceries and about 65-70% of the shelf space where the "staples" are kept was bare. Thanks to everyone freaking out there wasn't even any hamburger for me to have a sloppy joe tonight! I made it to work just fine in the AWD Commander with the 1-2 inches of sleet we have received in Springfield and out here in Nixa. The only time I spun any was on the way to the sitter's when my son asked if mommy told us not to do donuts! Guess I will have to stop by the store on my way home for some burger. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
