Members mo4packer Posted February 1, 2011 Members Posted February 1, 2011 Guys, I am always reading on here but don't make many comments. My accountant/boss/wife says I can go to the Rock for a 5 day fishing trip. I can go anytime from now through May. I prefer not to sight fish. Why and when would you guys go? Thanks for the help and guys have a nice thing going with this forum at the Rock. I wish we could get something similar for Truman/LOZ. GO PACK!
RSBreth Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I would go late March - Early April. Big Smallmouth time, every thing is prespawn so everyhting from cranks to spinnerbaits to finesse jigs can work. Just not on the same week as one of the bigger tournaments - so probably not the 26th-27th. As for not having a forum for Truman/LOZ - Ozarkanglers Truman Lake Forum. Ozarkanglers LOZ Forum. They're right there. EDIT. After posting I realized you mean how many poeple are active on the Table Rock forum versus the others. I don't know what to say, but maybe spread the word among the guys up there. It's a great place to share ideas.
rps Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 You did not mention whether you were headed up or down lake and that can make a difference. Whether we get a spring deluge to fill the lake or not also makes a difference. Hmmm. If I were going to fish without a guide, I guess I would aim at the first week of May, or maybe the second. You would be ahead of school out, you will hit either the early post spawn or the late spawn, the temperature will probably be nice and, hopefully, the wet weeks will fall , as usual, in April. Topwaters will have started to pay off as well. If I were planning to hire a guide, my answer changes. I would book the 3rd or 4th week of March and have the guide teach me jerk bait and other pre-spawn tactics. The hope/dream would be that I might tie into a lifetime fish. Do let us know what you decide and report the results. Hope you hammer them.

I would suggest the first Full Moon in April or May..this way you're gonna get spawn or post-spawn and you can fish all day and night is it's clear out. Plus you will be able to use a wider variety of baits that will all produce. Good Luck "Some go to church and think about fishing, others go fishing and think about God."
techo Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 The last week of April there is a large tournament going on, so I would skip that. The first week of May there is one on Tuesday with about 200 boats, but a good week of fishing. I would look at the third week of April or second week of May. If you have never fished Table Rock and can spare the change...a half day guide trip would be a good investment. Tim Carpenter
magicwormman Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I think you have two main factors. One, what part of the lake are you fishing and two, are you looking for quality or quantity. The river fish turn on before the fish in the lower part of the lake. Without knowing all the facts, I would guess, a few days before the full moon in April for big fish and a few days before the full moon in May for numbers. Go Pack!!!!!
dtrs5kprs Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Last 2 weeks in April thru first 2 weeks of May. If you like grubs and little plastics, redfins, those should be available then at (least from Baxter to the dam), assuming any normal weather. Second week in May might be late for some, but post spawn rig and topwater bite should be starting up. Will be there myself during all the big tmts it looks like. Just have to remember what I learned at Smithville and LOZ when we lined up to fish, just because a boat went thru your area doesn't mean they stuck all the fish. Actually considering getting on one of my good brown bass flats during the BASS and just tossing an anchor over. Might be entertaining, have been known to fish one point for several hours before.
glennL Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 You're all missing the point. Anytime is a good time to go fishing on Table Rock. Glenn
wily Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 i'd stay in the kimberling city area...it's a good part of the lake, and it has pretty fun night life with the bearded clam and ahoy's.

Sounds like an awesome 5 day trip! I am sure whatever week you choose, you are fishing for FIVE days without the wife and kids! Have a blast and enjoy! If you teach your kids to fish, your wife will let you go more often.....
