Vibrate mode in my wader pouch in case of emergency or to talk to fishing partners that are too far away from me. It can be used without talking loudly.

When my wife was still alive and I'd be out wading, she'd sit in the truck and do her cross stiching. I carried a walkie-talkie with me and left her one, both set to the same channel, so we could communicate.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

i always carry mine, just in case, i mean, it might save me from needing to saw my own arm or leg off with a length of 15lb braid. BUT, it's very rare that there is any kind of service in any of the places i've fished or floated, except some lakes. Something about being down in a river valley that makes for horrible reception.

And, in the case of an emergency, the top of the ridge holds the prospect of reception... Good point...

Mine stays in the truck. If I need help, I can signal with my pistol.

But I'd rather be dragging myself to the top of a ridge with my cell phone than sitting on a rock by the stream firing my pistol every so often and hoping someone comes toward the gunshots to investigate... But that's just me... And of course not all emergencies are created equal..
