rangerman Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Don't really care about bass that much, as they do nothing but aggravate me while I am targeting walleye. Caught ALOT of bass, both spots and blacks up the Kings River arm above Hickory Hollow. Prolly caught 50 to 60 fish total in 4 or 5 hours. Quite a few keepers. Caught them on pearl colored Berkley Flicker shads both size 5 and 7 paralelling the bluff banks on the outside bends. I think just about every fish I caught had something sticking out of its gullet whether it be shads tails or crawdad pinchers. A normal steady retrieve was what they were wanting. Also got into a good bunch of sow white bass, all in the 2 1/2 to 3 pound range. Fun, Fun. The river temp above 86 bridge were 46. The water temp by Hickory Hollow was 46. The water in between was 49. Crazy how that works but that was where the fish were. Good luck.
abkeenan Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Nice reports, thanks. Is there a place to launch that is more south than at Viola?
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Nice reports, thanks. Is there a place to launch that is more south than at Viola? Sweetwater, about 2 river miles down, and on the west side of the river. Kings River Park I think, but someone else will have to provide road directions. For no more water miles than it saves, and since it is not as nice as Viola I would pass, unless you are coming in from the west. As previously mentioned, there are no fish there. All of them are in Aunts. Oh, sorry...almost forgot the Rock Chalk .
abkeenan Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 dtrs5kprs- Thanks for the heads up, guess I will just stick with putting in at Viola. As for the Rock Chalk Jayhawk, why dont you just rub the salt in the wound a little deeper why don't ya. My Tigers are playing a lot more like Pussycats than Tigers and I am adding the "cats" to the end of that word to be nice. They are playing worse as the season goes along and it has been torturous to watch them play the last month. I think just the last week alone has taken 1 year off my life expectancy due to high (boiling) blood pressure. I guess I will say congrats to the KU team and their fans and also say I hope North Dakota State makes this years March Madness Tournament I will be down to TR next Wed-Sun and most likely hitting the Kings on Thursday and maybe bouncing around the lake depending on our successes or lack thereof. Will have 3 guys (Dad, brother and I) in an older navy, silver and red Nitro with a 150 Merc. If in the area stop by and say hello. We will be the ones with no fish in the boat.
rangerman Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 couple of eyes....wasn't giving that away though.

I just put in there and drove by as I suspected the fish would be on the points or nearby them. Everyone knows the Kings warm up first! Tim Carpenter
Champ188 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Believe me, Techo ... plenty of boats in the Kings on Saturday.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 couple of eyes....wasn't giving that away though. No threat from me. Like catfish, I can only catch them when I don't want to, like flipping bushes, cranking brushpiles. Just curious, seems like those fish are on a serious uptick, hope that is a good thing for the lake overall.
Bill Babler Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Just wanted to mention, you can launch at Hickory Hollow. It is a pay ramp at the resort on the honor system. I believe it is 4 bucks, just like the gov. ramps. That should put you right on the action. I am really suprised those big sow whites are that far up already with the cold temps we have had. Whites however are hard to understand. Usually up there in March it is nothing but Small Bucks. We have been catching the tar out of the Biggins the past few Winters out on the main lake humps, and this year they were not out there. Could be they were living up the river and getting ready for an early push. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
