 I haven't been there and I haven't done that, but I would not have "automatically" known it was illegal. I have seen trout dart up to my feet on the White River, but I never thought to fish for them.

My "big" boat has spooked a school of shad through the mouth of a run out and bass started schooling on them, I immediately attempted to catch as many of the bass as I could. Same thing or not ?

I agree with Gonefishen, let this shuffeling thing go,before some enviromentalist figure out we are killing the fresh water shirmp when we wade and they decide to outlaw wadeing. You can do several things when confronted with this, move and adapt, get in front of them and shuffle or just hit them in the back of the head with a 1/2 ounce sinker.Treat rudeness with rudeness and they will get the message!

Ham:

It seems to me that spooking a school of shad and then fishing for bass that started feeding on them would be the same thing.

I would rather be fishin'.

With the only difference being, that I didn't spook the shad on purpose. I didn't feel bad at all about fishing for the schoolies though.

Does it really matter how they got spooked? Point is the feeding was started by outside stimuli.

I try never to schuffle. I have been hit hard enough in the back of the knees to cause me to move and distrube the bottom. I try to be a smart fisherman and not cheat and try to catch the fish on a fair level. Nothing pisses me off more then seeing someone fish the outlets and then mishandles the fish on release. Just tears me up. When fishing RR I couldn't count the fish that are bank then literly thrown back to die. Better get off my soap box.

The guy's I saw were not walking. They were standing in one spot, kicking at the bottom while the other guy dropped a fly at their feet. Big diffrence. They took turns doing this. To me that is the diffrence. So may be more discrete about it, but these guy's were not trying to hide it.

Two of my pet peeves at Taney are shuffling and chumming. Both are legal and in my opinion shouldn't be in the trophy (restricted area)area.

It doesn't happen in other premium blue ribbon waters and they are good because of that. If we hope to continue to keep the treasure that we have above fall creek these prohibition need to be in place.

I can't tell how many times I have inquired about trout fisheries in other talilwaters in the US and have been told why are you coming here if you can fish The White River or Taneycomo.

The issue of shuffling is not hard to solve. If someone is standing still and the are still are constantly moving and kicking their feet---they are shuffing if they are walking or wading into a stream their whole body is moving in a forward direction. DUH There is a distinct difference and the chances that we would lost our right to wade fish if shuffling was regulated is redicilous. By the way in Missouri you can not be stopped for just a seat belt violation.

Chumming in the trophy water is apparently legal on Taney which I cannot understand. It doesn't happen anywhere else that I have fished the Trout restricted (trophy) areas. I have fished in most of the western states and some in the smokies. You wouldn't last 30 minutes on those streams shuffling or chumming without being escorted off the water or ticketed.
