ness Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I say we give Gavin a pass on this, and his other tirade about mishandling fish. He's clearly suffering from TSAD (tax season affective disorder). I get it too, but I've only got one return to file. John
Outside Bend Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 You know, guys, I just don't go in for the gloom and doom. Yes, the Japanese people are going through a horrible time with massive loss of life, massive loss of housing and property and livelihood. I feel deeply for them, and I will probably donate money to relief agencies, as I did for Haiti, etc. But, that does not mean I'm going to go around moping, being serious all the time, and wondering whether my most innocent statements are in poor taste considering the plight of Japan. Japan is over there, I'm over here, and I don't personally know anybody in Japan. So I thought the original post was informative, and maybe gave people something to consider if they like the Japanese lures. The jokes are in poor taste, but I'm not going to sweat it. I dunno, perhaps I misinterpreted the initial post, but it came across as a bit callous to me. If there were an earthquake/tsunami in Thailand, the reduced supply and increased cost of #16 Parachute Adams isn't going to be a chief concern to me. There are bigger issues to worry about. Just sayin'. <{{{><
Members Billyneck Posted March 15, 2011 Members Posted March 15, 2011 Wow! What I initially got out of the original post was the price of "one" of the hottest baits possibly becoming more costly cause of where they are created. The demand dictates the market price. I came across the Megabass lures today and was around the shop to hear how great and how they were the 1st place and so on's...choice of lures, but the statements of a true fisherman is... Really! To each is his own. How a person wants to be involved in the fantastic world of fishing should not be judged by the cost of the equipment as the much as the education they give to enjoy it and who they involve for the future. If something brings joy/success to them while there using that equipment they will be more willing to talk about it, and should be taken as just information you can decide what to do with it without being indignent. I am sure glad there was not talk about the multitude of rods, high dollar lines, great boats, primo gear. Dont be so misguided by someones info, and enjoy fishing the way you want. By the way, give a thought to the people who lost everything over there and be blessed to have what we have.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 There's always Raps. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Ham Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 The original post seemed just fine and dandy to me, but I know Larry. I know that Larry served this country honorably in the Navy where he spent time overseas. He likely knows a hell of a lot more Japan and it's people than most here do. I feel certain he meant no disrespect. I know that Larry used Megabass BEFORE every else knew about them, but has since moved on to fishing his old school Rogues and does just fine with them. I know that Larry has fly fished high altitude streams out west for tiny but beautiful native trout on flyrods in the past. He enjoyed it, but chooses not to fly fish at this time. I don't know anyone living in Japan at the moment, but that doesn't preclude me from having great sympathy for the people of Japan. I think this disaster will have a great impact on the world economy as well as the people of Japan. BUT, I just can't understand why so many people are critical of a post ON A FISHING FORUM that points out how the cost and availability of a popular fishing lure may be affected because of this disaster. IF you're a Megabass fan, consider it a PSA. Get em before they are off the market. If you're not a Megabass fan, don't read stuff into a post that isn't there. Rather than calling for threads to be locked or deleted maybe people should learn how to be more selctive in the threads they read. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it again and you sure as hell shouldn't feel the need to comment on it. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
flytyer57 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 There's always Raps. And if the price for one ever hits $25, I quit fishing with a crankbaits and stick to fly fishing. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
gotmuddy Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 No. I just don't throw my $6 crankbaits into the root wads along the river. How did it feel to lose that $25 crank the first time you went out and fished it? I'm happy with the few I pick up off the outside of those root wads. I'm not afraid to fish where the fish are. I have good eyes and fairly decent aim. Losing that jerkbait sucked but at least I caught 8 fish on it before I lost it. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Members Billyneck Posted March 16, 2011 Members Posted March 16, 2011 And if the price for one ever hits $25, I quit fishing with a crankbaits and stick to fly fishing. The going price today was $30. But good news is the lead market is stable, and the rubber to compliment those heads are good, and there is endless supply of carpet fiber for scuds. Larry was just giving us a real heads up on tackle, and I appreciate that even if I am not buying those bassmagnets. Keep the info coming, thats what this forum is for. Remember, act on it if it is important to you and report your adventures.
troutfiend1985 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I re-read the original post, nothing in there suggested that one should not be concerned with the situation in Japan. Rather, the post merely stated that if you like baits from there then you might want to get them as the crisis in Japan may affect the availability of the baits and the price of them. I really cannot see why this would be offensive, the person merely made an observation that was relevant to fishing and did not pertain to an insensitive remark on the situation in Japan. And really people, is this what it takes us to get offended, as compared with all the b.s. on tv, radio and the internet we want to crucify a person for putting information about fishing on a fishing forum as if it was meant to belittle the situation and crisis that Japan has? “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J.
