Trout Commander Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Looking at possibly fishing the White for the first time Saturday. Even with the drive from Springfield (right past Taney) and the fighting the crowds for the Sow Bug, would the hatch coming off make it worth the trip? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

Ham Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 What crowd? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Trout Commander Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 What the he!!....thought you couldn't get away. LOL Hope it works out and good luck. LOL I should have elaborated. I will already be in Branson for non-fishing reasons so I cant get away - to BSC - but can get to Taney or possibly the white. What crowd? Doesn't the sow bug round up draw in droves of people? One would have to assume that most of them will fish while they are in the area??? TF57 reported a larger than usual crowd in another thread, so I figured it would only be more crowded on a nice weekend day. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Hopper Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I don,t really think it gets that much busier than anyother weekend with nice weather, last year at sow bug their was a huge caddis hatch at rim shoals on Sat. they were taking green butt soft hackles, would'nt take a dry. Gregg The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.

eric1978 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 The caddis and midges were so thick on the Current today I was choking on them. They started hatching pretty early morning, too. Sign of the season turning...finally. Get your a$$ down there and do some fishing, screw the crowds.

Good to hear, I've been down to the Current a couple times this season and only seen a few caddis buzzing around. Did you do any good? <{{{><

Eh, kinda slow. Below Baptist gave up a few on streamers early, one good one about 18". Got skunked at Tan Vat up to the rock garden. Surprisingly I didn't see many fish rising with all the bugs around, and I tried every stage of the cycle, both midge and caddis, with no takers. Went slumming in the park to finish the day and caught a dozen in a couple hours on fetal emergers. No browns today.
Zack Hoyt Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Taneycomo and the White are two totally different types of water. There is a whole lot more fishable water on the White for people to spread out. And yes......Caddi on the White are well worth the drive. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
