edyer Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Campers is up the river, but by no means UP the river. You still have a fur piece to go to get to the 76 bridge. If your headed for Campers, that means you are doing that, camping. It is about as far as you can get out of Shell Knob, on a pretty iffy road. Tell us what type of fishing you are wanting to do and I bet we can get you headed in the right direction. If it were me, this time of the year, probably would think of a place closer to where the fish are, if that was what I was really after. If you were after solitude a big camp fire and maybe just playing on a stretch of really nice water, not so much where the fish are really concentrated now and that didn't matter, you have picked wisly. Good Luck We fished Big Creek on Friday and Saturday. Caught 20 on Friday, but 8 were keepers, so we ran back there on Saturday. We could only manage three keepers with about 20 shorts. On Friday, we caught fish on fb jigs, stickbaits, spinner baits, shaky heads, and grubs. On Saturday, two of our keeps were on grubs, and one on the fb jig. Lost one stickbait fish at the net. One of our other boats did well in the Baxter area on Friday and Saturday, but only could catch one keep on Sunday. Fish were running a lot smaller. Fished the Aunts Creek area this morning with poor luck. Bill, you say there are better concentrations of fish up the white, how much farther up do we need to run? We are staying in Little Aunts creek until Thursday.
Gone Fishing Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Man what a pig Bill. I see you got the spinning gear out. Did you catch her on a float N fly or a grub?

Good Luck Bill thanks for the reply. We have a place to stay on Stallion Bulff rd. between points 11 and 12 little closer to 11 around the corner from hideaway. our only put in point that's close is campers point. Were gonna be after crappie and bass this weekend. I was think about starting in wolf creek for the crappie or other locations that you may think is better. Thanks for the help Scott
Members thefrog22 Posted April 5, 2011 Members Posted April 5, 2011 Thanks MST! Im more used to a "truman" approach but always looking to learn new things. Im assuming you guys use a chompers style skirted jig, any trailers you prefer? Ive used paca chunks in the past with good success but again the Rock is a new style for me. My jig rod is 6'6 with a 6:4:1 baitcaster and 14lb mono, wonder if 14 is too heavy for the water clarity down there?
dtrs5kprs Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Little brown jigs (eakins type) and FB's 3/8 to 3/4. Chunks, craws, and twin tails all work. Browns and greens with some purple. Ten or twelve pound fluoro would probably be better string. Single tail grubs should get going soon, that is usually an easier bite.
techo Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I tried those paca chunks two years ago and had good luck with them. I still like the Chompers and Yamamoto twin tails the best. Tim Carpenter
Champ188 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Been favoring the Yum twin tails myself for jig trailers. They swim great, are tough as leather and are reasonably priced.
Whack'emGood Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I use 15 lb fluorocarbon, no problem. Fluoro is invisible, even in Table Rock clear water. Definitely do not use mono on Table Rock during the day. I even use fluoro at night, but I know a lot of guys have great success with fluorescent mono at night on TR. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
abkeenan Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Jigs setup for me is Falcon BuCoo 6'10" Heavy (fishes more like a MH), Curado, 12# Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon, Eakins/Bass X/Chompers jigs with Paca Chunk trailers. Like guys have said you cant go wrong with green pumpkins, watermelon, PBJ and browns with purple mixed into those colors. I really like the Paca Chunks and Paca Chunk Sr, good action, good colors choices (i like PBJ, Green Pumpkin, Table Rock Red and Alabama Craw) and pretty fair prices on them. Good luck.
