smallmouthjoe Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I'm still working on my Missouri water bucket list. I have fished most of the western streams, still need to get on some of the eastern streams. 1) Meramec 2) Upper North Fork 3) Big Piney 4) Gasconade 5) Black River I should get a trip on the upper North Fork this summer so I can mark that one off the list. Any suggestions on other Missouri stream I should add?
Gilly Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 A. I'd like to get back up to Canada, Slims Cabins specifically, a few more times. B. Have a center console boat big enough for all my grandchildren (5 so far) to be out with us at the same time. C. Catch and eat fish that are very palatable as per recommendation of others (although that can be a very trusting concept. Had a buddy tell me he could serve up tasty duck....didn't happen). D. Spend more time with the family relaxing around the campfire. E. And being this is my list and this is outdoors related.....I would love to ride a full tilt Harley hill climber straight to the top. www.drydock516.com
stlfisher Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 There is so many on my to do list I wouldn't even know where to start. Montana, Alaska, New Zealand and Chile like many others have mentioned. Taimin in Mongolia would be awesome too. Jurassic lake in Argentina (while it is brutal to get too and tough conditions) sounds like something you have to do to say you did it. http://www.wherewisemenfish.com/_Argentina_Trout_Fishing_Jurassic_Lake

The St Francis, 11 Point and the AR portion of the Kings should probably be on your list if you haven't done them. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Smalliebigs Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Outdoors related........ 3. Play golf at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews, Scotland (already played Pebble Beach) 2. Go Black Marlin fishing so I can act like Hemingway 1. Take my daughters fishing enough to get them hooked so they will have a fond fishing memory of their father pretty simple Mitch, I like all three but, # 1 I couldn't agree with you more. That would be my 1 thru 10 and once she's hooked with fishing thing then we will travel the world hammering fish wherever we go.
watermen Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Interesting thread and fun, fortunately i've done alot of them. Would definately like to go to the Amazon, I would like to catch a marlin of decent size, either striped or blue. And before I die it's off to newbrunsick to catch an atlantic on a dry. Preferably with a cane rod, borrowed but classic. The menominee and brookies are home waters as was montana and alaska was and still is to a degree. I guess I like to fish. troutbum would be a description of my youth, atleast I'm not alone. The boardman, maple or pidgeon are better hex waters these days and less crowded than the ausable or pere marquette. Most of these are a long weekend drive guys. I found out 3 weeeks ago a good fishing buddy of mine is eaten up with cancer. the moral of the story is go if you have the chance, his bucket is empty at 45, and you only get one bucket. Without getting maudlin there's always fish to catch, go catch them.
MOsmallies Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 In no particular order... Trips - Boundary waters for smallies - New River for smallies - El Salto, Falcon, and Lake Fork for Trophy Largemouth - Louisiana for Redfish and Speckled Trout - Hawaii for Smallmouth - Devils River for smallmouth - Shallow water spearfishing - Bowfishing for carp and gar Goals - Learn to effectively fly fish - Catch a 22" river smallie (hopefully 5+ lbs) - Catch a 7+ lb Missouri Largemouth

Any suggestions on other Missouri stream I should add? If you haven't done the Current that is a must-but you should do that either on a weekday or the off season to avoid crowds. I think it is the most scenic river I have ever floated with the possible exception of the Eleven Point (another Missouri stream you should put on your list). I'd suggest floating the Current anywhere from Baptist Camp up near the headwaters to Two Rivers at the confluence of the Jacks Fork. That's 50 miles, and there are at least 5 good one day floats on that stretch. There are plenty of springs (my favorite is Welch Spring a couple miles above Akers) and bluffs, and the country is wild. Plenty of good gravel bars to camp on too. The first 15 miles of the river is trout water, after that it's goggle-eye, bass, and pickeral. The Jacks Fork is another to put on your list. It's very similar to the Current except with somewhat less crowds, and it's all bass water. It may be the wildest river in the state in its upper reaches. To be honest I'd put all those rivers far above the Meramec. The Meramec is a good river in it's own way, but does not compare favorably in my opinion to the rivers of the deep Ozarks. The exception is above Maramec Spring, where you have to work a lot harder to float the river, and the country is quite rugged and remote. That part of the river can be as fun as any Ozark stream and the fishing isn't bad either.

The Meramec is a great river for big fish. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
