After starting out at 8:00PM we got back to her house at about 11:00PM to find our granddaughter had been taken there by her school principle. Buzz, was the principle's last name Boyd? He was my teacher in high school (where my mom works), and he is a good man.

She goes to the new East Middle School out on east 20th street. I haven't heard how it withstood the storm. 3 of the 10 schools were destroyed and a couple sustained quite a bit of damage. Joplin School District has plans to start school on August 17. Not sure exactly how, but they must have a plan. I just hope it doesn't include a bunch of trailers. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members markw Posted May 27, 2011 Members Posted May 27, 2011 I made it past East middle today looks like some of roof is gone and I heard the gym is gone.rumor has it they will have it ready for school.I was over by 20th and conneticut today helping clear a driveway for a guy at work and people magazine came thru to interview.

"The Westboro Baptist Church believes tragedies like the tornado are God's punishment on Americans for accepting homosexuality." Maybe, hopefully, one day their church will be hit by a tornado and they will realize that it was god's way of punishing them for their sins of stupidity. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

They have the children carrying signs. My wife and I are going to be at the memorial tomorrow. I don't give a rats @$$ about westboro, but they better not get in my way. Just sayin'. hoglaw Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 The Westboro ilk remind me of a guy we used to call "Moses" on campus at the UofA. He would preach fire and brimstone and spend most of his time calling the young ladies harlots and generally all college students sinners. Come to find out the guy went campus to campus doing this to incite folks into assaulting him, or to get the Universities to restrict his speach in an arguably illegal manner for the pupose of generating lawsuits. I guess that's just how he made his living. I have a hard time believing any of these Westboro people are doing the horrible things they do out of faith or some misguided system of beliefs. I have to think there is some ulterior motive they are serving by spewing hatred that is completely unrelated to faith. Unfortunatlely putting up with these kinds of people is just part of the price of freedom in this country. If somehow we could manage to ignore them and frustrate whatever purpose they have in life, maybe they would just go away.
