Walcrabass Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I am definitely NOT BLAMING our schools or TEACHERS!!!! I was just trying to make a point that about a half a century ago most people by the ripe old age of 5 would have known better than to do these kind of things. I guess I had better make my sarcastic way of putting things better in the future. It is just that I hate to blatantly call people names for committing silly stunts so I tried to get the point across more gently.
Walcrabass Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I tried to post again but must have made a mistake with computor keys. I truly did not try to enrage anyone. Just trying to get people to think. I DEFINITELY am NOT blaming the TEACHERS or SCHOOLS. Only trying to use a little sarcasm about how our country has changed in some areas of thinking. Most people that were born around 50 years ago would have known this type of behavior to be inconsiderate. I am not wanting to call anyone names. I only want everyone to be respectful of others and for NOBODY to get hurt. The person that wrote in about the trees just under the water surface is right. Boating can be dangerous.

I think you are exactly right! I'm only 28 years old and I can see how much things have changed just in my time. I was raised to be respectful, curtious(sp), and use common sense. You don't see many these days that have these, especially with my age bracket and younger.
straw hat Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I might as well put in my two cents worth. When I went to school (a very long time ago) all the schools I went to taught a class called citizenship. In these classes the teachers taught us the importance of voting, the workings of a democracy, serving in the military etc… They also taught us our obligation to society. This included things like walking on the right side of a hall or sidewalk, taking your hat off when talking to a lady; letting the elderly, handicap or women have your seat on a crowded bus; saying please and thank you as well as the proper use of sir, ma’am and other titles. Just like other classes such as math, science, English and art or parents had taken these classes as well. And just like math, science, English and art our parents had the responsibility to re-enforced what we had been taught in school by helping us with homework and showing by example. I know these classes have long went by the wayside but that is a shame. Sometimes when my wife and I go shopping teenagers get frustrated at the way the elderly move slowly or easily get confused. They often make a comment to the elderly that is rude and suggests that we are nothing but in the way. A lot of times the parents just laugh and think it is cute. Where did we all go wrong?

Impressed is not a word I use often. Your postings are those of a much older and wiser person who has been around. Be proud of yourself and don't forget to pass on what you have learned to others. With 28 year-olds like you maybe there is hope.

FWIW, I got your point. Lotsa folks out there without common sense or common courtesy. John
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 IWhere did we all go wrong? I'm not going wrong. My kids learn respect and proper social behavior at home. My kids often point out poor behavior in others. We're here just not many of us anymore. Pete

Tell your kids for me that they are lucky to have a father like you.

FishinCricket Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Old foggie here. What is a FWIW? Just curious. Young, rambunctious chimp here, but I believe FWIW to be short for the title of an old Buffalo Springfield song "Somethin's happenin' here.. What it is ain't exactly clear..." FWIW= For What It's Worth Ness- what happened to the second part of your post? Thought better of it? lol cricket.c21.com
