flytyer57 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Here's a link to a saddle that ended last week on ebay. $570.00!!!! I see from your link that the purple saddle sold for $570, but the other plain hackles listed there are only getting $20 bids. I got some old hackles I used for tying salmon/steelhead flies that are died purple, silver doctor blue, orange etc. They aren't the standard dry fly hackles, but Chinese necks. I do have one pink saddle from Hareline Dubbin that should prove adequate. I'm thinking of opening an E-Bay account since I need the extra money. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Do it. I got a hundy for a small grizzly hackle with all of the small size hackles removed. It was standard blk and white. Lady told me if it was any other color she would've paid more. The furnace hackle I had cut in half for my daughters pumpkins fetched another $40. I think the smallest size left on it were for flies #8 or bigger. It was totally worthless to me. I put em on Craigslist here in town since I didn't want to fool with eBay. Pete
timsfly Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I still have a decent supply of hackle, and I'm still getting orders in from whiting, I get some new saddles about every 6 weeks, supplies are low, but I just keep ordering and I do get some feathers evey little bit, I have several tiers, and I'm keeping them plenty busy, Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
flyrodman Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Today I walked into the fly shop at bass pro to buy a new vise and get some tying materials I needed and I saw about 6 or 7 hackles that were sold out. So then I came home and I was looking for hackle on ebay and saw one climbing into the $400 range. Really, 400 bucks for chicken feathers to put in your hair. I really hope this ends soon Luke Walz

flytyer57 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 That makes sense -- I think the guy at Cabela's was misinformed, or maybe just full of it. Or maybe trying to push a sell. Buy now or suffer later. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
ness Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Or maybe trying to push a sell. Buy now or suffer later. Naw -- there wasn't any hackle there, according to him. John
flytyer57 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Naw -- there wasn't any hackle there, according to him. Probably hidinig it behind the counter and only selling to the highest bidder-hair stylists. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Ill Trout Bum Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Like many other fads- this too shall pass!! Scott
