woodman Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hay it is just a mirror image of the digression of our society today...It will have to bottom out..which it is hastily spiraling down to...before any change can take place... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Al Agnew Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Did the annual float trip with the nieces and nephew yesterday. The Huzzah was crowded, especially for a Monday, but Cory tells us that Mondays are really busy these days. No really obnoxious people other than the four middle aged ladies in a raft with a boom box attached to an Iphone and cranked up so loud you could hear it a half mile away. But being after a busy weekend, there were beer cans littering the bottom everywhere. And certainly the people on the river yesterday were adding to them, because I saw beer cans rolling along on the bottom when there were people swimming upstream. Not only that, but a group of doofuses had driven a 4WD pickup down onto a gravel bar and were riding ATVS up and down the bar and into the little backwater alongside it...kinda illegal. It makes me sad to see so many people with no concept of how cool a creek like Huzzah is. To them it's just a place to paddle and swim and party and get drunk. Geez, they might as well do it in a pool. I think that the biggest mistake the canoe liveries ever did was to start offering rafts. A raft on an Ozark stream really is nothing but a party platform. You don't have to worry about turning them over and you can carry a heck of a lot of beer and a huge boom box and three or four people to party with. At least with canoes the boom boxes usually got ruined when the paddlers got drunked up and flipped the canoe. And with kayaks you can't carry much and you can't keep it dry.
Jack Jones Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 It does get harder and harder to find quiet places to get away to on the weekend. I don't blame them for wanting to party, and truthfully I'd rather have them on the river than driving around (Darwinism works in a more individual fashion that way). I still would just long for days when people could enjoy the river, drink in moderation, and sneak away with a gal (or guy if that's your preference ) to the banks for relaxation without the crap. Members mikepeace Posted July 28, 2011 Members Posted July 28, 2011 There is a new campground and float service called " Hidden Valley Outfitters " going in just below the Hwy 64 Niangua River bridge. They also rent canoes, kayaks and rafts. Those are two different spots you two are describing, and (from what I understand) they are putting in more camping upstream from the bridge and a private access downstream from "MY Island"... Capitalism, gotta love it!!

Wayne SW/MO Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I hate to hear it, but I knew it was inevitable. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 "Hidden Valley".....LMAO. Boy, I hope they didn't spend too much time coming up with that name. Talk about being buried on google, is there not at least 14 Hidden Valley's in every county in the USA? I'm surprised that the area has missed out on that after all these years. LOL Oh and Mike, get some dang 4x Rio FFP in there would ya?
