Arofishing Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 green bitsy tube (pinch the barb). So there's two of us fishing barbless on the James? Make that 3 . Pretty sure some other guys on here go barbless too
TroutRinger Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Ah I see, I thought the bridge in the video was the 125 access. You we're out at the 134 bridge. I was just going to say, if you were going to the 125 access, FR 205 south to FR 138 (Cherry St.)Will get you to the river with less traffic worries. I had some friends that grew up in that area, I used to wade fish those spots all the time. **I floated from the old railroad bridge just off Sunshine down to Pecker's Beach (Chrighton) 3 weeks ago and caught around 40 bass on green bitsy tube (pinch the barb). In a kayak? Did you drag much? "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
eric1978 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I like your style, bro. There's a guy here of MFU fame that has, on at least one occasion, floated with his bike in his canoe and ridden it back to his vehicle at the end of the day. It was on the James, don't know which accesses he used. Couldn't be worse than a 25 mile round trip. Of course he was doing it out of necessity and not for exercise...maybe that's your idea of a good time? Now someone toss me another bratwurst. Oh, and Schopenhauer is better than Kierkegaard. I like the avatar, though.

I like the avatar, though. Haven't done it yet, but I can do a five mile float on the Yellowstone past my house, with a six mile one way bike shuttle with NO HILLS! Well, at least no hills over about 40 feet high. And I could do it entirely on almost perfectly flat ground if I wanted to dodge a lot of potholes on a closed road that's in very poor condition. Mary and I have been riding our bikes to town to get groceries and go to the farmers' market...I'm keeping my legs in shape.
Jack Jones Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Loved the video. Great report. I always learn a lot from folks who post like this. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett

If I did, I'd definitely leave my bike locked where I am going to end my float, arrive there from river, lock the kayak, ride my bike to where I began, drive back and load everything up. It'd be a lot of trips but I'd be self-sufficient doing it. Now that I am getting older I've been looking for excuses not to exercise - "oh, I mowed the lawn today and went fishing, I don't need to run" - and believe me, my belly is a testament to the fact that I don't need excuses . I hadn't been on a 20+ mile ride in more than a month, and since I'm usually riding out that way anyway, am obsessed with fishing, and now have a travel rod, I thought what the heck, might as well kill 2 birds with one stone . Re: Shcopenhauer, my commitments are probably closer to his than Kierks. They actually lie with Nietzsche the most. That is who I hope to write my thesis on.
Arofishing Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 I always learn a lot from folks who post like this. There's a scary thought! (Given how much of a neophyte I am). Thanks for the compliment, I have a heck of a lot to learn, but I'm like a sponge when I get on OAF. Just tied my first wolly bugger-esque fly tonight using Tim's video (sans maribou and hackle, so I'm not sure it can be called a wolly bugger, its more like a sub surface panfish bug).
