barredrock Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 what in your opinion is the best color San Juan worm for Taneycomo, adn for what reasons and in what conditions
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Red or Ginger. They're better in some areas then in others. I try them in slower sections because they haven't performed as well as scuds in the faster flows. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
timsfly Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 None of what you have listed are my favorites, we caught 60+ on wine, and white San Juans today. grizwilson 1 Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
barredrock Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 i can see the wine, but the white caught me off guard a little, but I will add them to the poll if you wanna check them
timsfly Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I've caught enough 10 plus rainbows and browns on the white to make me a believer. My best on white so far has been a 16 pound rainbow, biggest brown has been 13 pounds, thanks for adding them to your poll. laker67 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I could count on one hand, the number of times I have used a SJ worm. Never liked the feel of it in the water. After reading TIm's post, I may have to start getting used to it. Those are some heavy duty fish Tim. Dylan Cluver 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Caught a 29 inch rainbow at McC's on a worm brown SJ. Litterally have caught thousands of trout on them. Especially high water boat fishing. Also have an old picture of a big cutthroat caught on one. I have the fly punched through the frame. Pete
tippet7 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I have tyed worms the SJ way and have done a little experimenting with 2 tone worms. I dont have a photo with me, but take, say a brown as the body and use a dark shade over the 2 spots where i secure it to the hook. I also tye them a little longer than regular SJ worms The best success so far has been a dark red and contrasting lighter red as the body. I will try and get a photo up of them. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Travis Swift Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 found this in the archives. I'm a jig guy but would like to try this. How do you guys fish them in a boat, just under a float? Or do you fish them on a drift rig on the bottom? also do you tie with a plain hook or a small jig head? Also how do you tie and fish an egg fly during the same conditions?
