crazy4fishin Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Today while fishing above the boat ramp a guy came in the area with a couple of other people in the boat and the first thing he did was throw a couple of scoops of something into the water. I have never seen this before - any idea as to what he was doing? C4F Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 6, 2011 Root Admin Posted September 6, 2011 If he was chuming, it is legal. If he using live bait for bait, then he was breaking the law.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 6, 2011 Root Admin Posted September 6, 2011 Could have been trout food.
crazy4fishin Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 I am pretty sure it wasnt live bait by the sound it made when it hit the water - I bet it was trout food. Hopefully it helped him as we coulndt hardley get a solid bite all day. Thanks for the clarification C4F Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Members catfish307 Posted September 6, 2011 Members Posted September 6, 2011 Could have been corn. I've seen several of the old time fishermen doing it before.
Gatorjet Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I would have been more interested to see what he had on the end of his line! As Phil said, using bait in that area is illegal! Real men go propless!
Members Fredrick Posted September 6, 2011 Members Posted September 6, 2011 One day I saw trout hitting like crazy and kids were standing there they were afraid. I said what are you doing the girl said I kept pellets from the tour I said watch this I threw in and I landed a 17 in rainbow in about 2 seconds . They were shocked I wasn't mad at them I said thank you. LOL jagermeister anyone?
troutfiend1985 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Could have been corn. I've seen several of the old time fishermen doing it before. I first started trout fishing in Kansas City at the winter trout ponds. I would use corn as bait, but I would chum the area by throwing handfuls of corn into the area I was fishing. I always caught a ton and it was a blast. However, I started chumming and releasing(Hey, I was 17 and dumber than a box of rocks) and nearly got into a fight with a bum who was mad about my practices. Never have used corn since, but for some reason this story made me think about it. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
Seth Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I've heard corn will kill fish because they can't digest it properly. Is that true? We've caught a lot of trout down at Taney that were full of corn before. Always wondering what effect it had on bigger fish.
