Go wack em! They would probably go for a Zara Spook or a Suspending Jerkbait. Smithwick Suspending Super Rogue's are good baits and relatively inexpensive....Maybe work out a deal for some temporary access at McKee in exchange for some striper fillets?

Tried them at night a few weeks ago with big streamers, had no takes, then floated around the hole with a light and never saw them. Not sure where they were but they were back next time I was through there. Size I would say they are all between 8 and 30 pounds. Still some in the hole where you start getting into houses above James Bridge, and though I've never seen them some have been seen in the big hole just below our house, fished for them one night also with no success. May have to pull out the spinning reel and give them a try!

When does gigging season open?:D

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Super flukes would be a no no above Patrick Bridge....but I guess you could try a spore with a tail....or tie a few Deceiver's on scounger jig heads. Jointed Jittebug at night might work too.

Have you guys tried using a live trout as bait. I hear they really like those.

Why would you use those? Smallmouth work better.

They are crazy tough during the day....have to wonder if it has something to do with all of the canoes going over them, maybe they will settle down as the river settles down now that the major part of the season is over (now my boat will probably go over them more than anything as guiding season goes crazy).

We saw 2 or 3 fish below your house last weekend Justin, one of them was pretty sizeable too.

I would guess the exact same size range 8-30 pounds, with one of them going a little bigger I am SURE. Haven't fished below Patrick in forever because of how the fishing has fallen out down there but still hearing reports of a few fish down that way too.

I still say a grabbing hook with some skis would be awesome.

I'm sure these fish have seen every lure made by man this summer, everyone with a fishing rod had to at least try to catch one if they saw them. After a few of their buddies came up missing (or worse were released back to tell the tale) they got smart. I saw one chasing a 1-2 pound shad, which is another species not normally found here. Don't have any streamers quite that big, but I bet Wise does. Maybe we need to talk to AJ about getting a special permit to grab or gig these guys, does anyone know if they will head back down to the lake as the weather gets colder?
