Has anyone ever fished the Niangua for Trout? With the full moon coming and the nice weather, i have been thinking about it...?

Seems i hear alot about gigging. I have never gigged or known anyone who gigs. It seems to be implied, that giggers are poachers. I am not up on my gigging laws, but I assume that giggers are after suckers and such, and not Bass and Trout. So, I guess my question is, Are giggers really taking enough bass and trout to make a difference, or is it just perceived to be so? Seems everytime someone has a bad day on the river, they blame it on gigging...

Most giggers I know have at some time or another gigged a trout on accident, but the last thing they want is a trout to eat (not as sure about the bass), and there are enough suckers to keep them happy. Like everything else I'm sure there are those who gig whatever they see, but the ones I know try to follow the regs.

While it's hard to know what happens on the river, what happens there stays there, but they have and some have been caught so it happens.

You don't see near the suckers you used too so who knows what they feed 20 people with?

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I've never been keen on night fishing with the moon on the water. A clear night and starlight is fine...but it seems to die when that moon comes..The tailwater night fishers might provide better insight. Cheers.

Ok some say different but I have only caught one Trout with Gig Marks. Most Gig for Suckers which are far better eating anyway.

My problem is I have water loaded with Redhorse no one Gigs I can't justify fixing my Boat for Gigging because I can't get anyone to go with me :donwan:

Have never caught many sizeable browns under a moon, but Kdan and I have caught a fair amount of 6 to 12 lb rainbows under a moon on the tailwaters.

I've had about equal success in full moon or otherwise. My favorite is a rainy night though.

I have a lot of old photos of big fish while I have rain gear on.

Some photos look like they were taken at night but it was really just a rainy day in the winter.

A few very prominent guides used to spotlight them while the angler fished for them on the Little Red years ago.

People say fish are afraid of the light but I've seen some very large browns take a bugger under a spotlight.

Of course now you can't fish the spawn at night at Cow Shoals anymore. I think.
