gitnby Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Of all the professional sports, I have always thought that fisherman and golfers were truly the classiest pros. For the most part, these guys and gals are good folks who are fan-friendly, as opposed to the tattoo-covered punks who fail drug tests, have criminal records and beat women. (NFL, NBA, MLB) Both golf and fishing require a keen mental edge, and while fitness is important, not all of the top performers are pure athletes. (Craig and Kevin Stadler and John Daly come to mind, as do David Fritts, Woo Daves and others on the BASS tour) But, as we have seen in 2 previous posts about the Central Open and the PAA tournament, bass fishing has a few "characters". Roland Martin has always been known as a primadonna, and the recent post confirms that. Tommy Biffle has had his share of "issues", one of which I documented in my earlier post. Iaconelli rubs some people the wrong way, and while he's a pretty good guy, Rick Clunn is one strange bird. In golf, you have John Daly, who has been an embarassment to the PGA tour. A buddy of mine, who was on the PGA tour several years ago, said that Hale Irwin was a jerk, and very few players liked him. All in all, though, the "bad guys" are a very small percentage of either sport.
Champ188 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Definitely my two favorite sports as well, gitnby ... both to participate in and to watch. As you said, every niche in life has a few bad apples. I agree with you, though, that they are few and far between in fishing and golf.
edwin Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Only difference between the two - I'm way better at golf than I am at fishing "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
gitnby Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Only difference between the two - I'm way better at golf than I am at fishing On a bad day of fishin, I wish I was playin golf! On a bad day of golf, I wish I was fishin! As the song says: "It's too hot to fish, too hot for golf, and too cold at home"
edwin Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Never too hot to play golf! "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
RSBreth Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I LOVE golf because those first few warm weekends in Spring have people at the course versus the lake.
Outside Bend Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I only visit golf courses because they have ponds. <{{{><
edwin Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I only visit golf courses because they have ponds. Great fishing on golf course ponds. Not uncommon for me to have a travel rod in the golf bag "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
Sore Thumbs Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Only difference between the two - I'm way better at golf than I am at fishing Me too, and I suck at golf!
Champ188 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Could this have the makings of the inaugural Ozark Anglers golf tourney?
