abkeenan Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I'm glad to see a bait company that makes all their baits here in AMERICA. Don't really care if it is a knock-off because everything in the fishing industry is repeated. Atleast they have jobs here and the profits stay in the USA. Yep. Located in Cassville, Missouri also which is another plus.
jeb Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Wow, I did not know they were made in Cassville. I go by there everytime I go up to Springfield. Small world, and all the better reason to buy more of them. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Quillback Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 What size and brand of split rings is good for switching the STX stock rings out? I think they are a size 3 split ring. I used some off a broken IMA Flit. I also used a bigger split ring (couple sizes bigger than a 3) on the back and middle hooks on a couple of the STX's. Doing this gave the bait a tail down at about 45 degrees, and slow sink attitude. That has worked well at times lately. The bass on the lakes I'm fishing don't seem to be reacting well to the long pause between twitches routine, I've been catching them working the bait with short pauses between twitches. Water needs to get a little colder I believe before the long pause becomes effective.
Members Don P Posted December 22, 2011 Members Posted December 22, 2011 Bass Pro in St Charles is stocked up with them....including the Pro Blue. I bought a few to try out on Dale Hollow next week.
Quillback Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I'll be interested to hear how you do on Dale Hollow with them.
Mike Worley Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I called the Luck E Strike company and asked about the hook & split rings. The guy I talked to said the hook was a Eagle Claw FL934BPM6 (light wire hook) He said he was aware of the weak split ring problem and that the latest version had a upgraded split ring that should be stronger. So far I haven't been able to locate that hook but I think I will buy some of the Megabass replacement hooks from Red's. The split ring looks like a size #1 or #2. When I changed out the hook & ring on the lure I used a reloading powder scale and found a combination that weighed about 1 grain heavier which didn't seem to affect the lures action.
rangerz21 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Might give shortys hooks in windsor mo a try they are the eagle claw distributor.

Take me, take me. Just funnin' ya. Maybe the best Smallmouth Walleye Lake I ever fished but that was 20 some odd years ago are you going to fish with the Float N Fly? You sure are going at the right time of year. Good luck!
Stump bumper Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 How do they suspend anyway? I know with the McStick I have use heavy split rings and heavy owner hooks to get the rise out of the lure and perfer a slow head first sink in cold water.Mike even said to add a split ring. I plan to get a couple next week and just wondering how much weight it will require to get them to suspend if not a slow sink.
jeb Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 They suspend almost perfectly right out of the box, or at least mine do. That was in 50-52 degree water on Beaver. Just a slight heads down attitude. So it should not take much weight at all to get them to slow sink. I'm in Ohio for Christmas and checked the local Bass Pro for the Pro Blue's yesterday. They don't carry them at all this far north, it seems. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
