Winter Gear-Up Question

I was always a Shimano guy untl I tried a Pfluegar Supreme XT, that thing has been the sweetest, smoothest, best casting and most comfortable to fish with spinning reel I've ever used. I really like the look of the MGX and it is next on my list of reels I want to get. I have a Symetre FJ but if it's raining or I use it all day that thing sticks so bad I almost can't even turn the reel handle.

Thanks blue. Great first hand experience with both brands. Gonna either go with the Pflueger MG or Shimano Saros. Found a place that sells the Saros for $100 so they will be the same price.

Shimano's do bind when wet...its the reason I wont waste another dollar on one.

Votes here for the Pflueger President and Asaro series spinning reels. I'm a rolling ball of razor blades of abuse and they keep on ticking

The Abu Orra is a great real for the price. I have one along with two other Revo's and they are durable, fit in your hand nice and easily serviceable. Best reals on the list.. for the money.

I have a Shimano Saros and I haven't had any problems with it.

It's the smaller sized 1000 series, use it with 4 or 6 lb line white bass fishing mostly.

abkeenan, i misspoke slightly. My reels are JM 20 models, just slightly bigger than the JM 10.

The only 2 reels you listed that I own are the shimino and Quantum and the Quantum is no longer on a rod and never get through one year with a Quantum.

I noticed you left out the Mitchell 300X..Mitchel is an old company that has kept up quailty and keep down price. I have two 300x that I have forgot how old they are and never let me down and I forget to clean and lube since they never make a sound and keep on going. They are not pretty or expensive but they do take a beating and keep on going.

I always treat a reel bad and reel them closed, leave them in the rod box and forget to clean and lube and have found the more expensive reels don't like to be treated that way.JMHO

Don't know what your budget is, but the Shimano Stradic CI-4 is a great mid level reel and will pair nicely with your new Falcon!

My Pflueger President has outlasted two Shimano Symetre reels that get the same use - canoe fishing on rivers and some lake fishing with heavy lures. I love them both. The Pflueger is better on the retrieve and I think the Shimano casts a little better. But from a value standpoint, the Pflueger beats the pants off the Shimano, it costs less and lasts twice as long!
