dtrs5kprs Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 For what it is worth...remember the early history of BASS, and tmt fishing generally. Ray Scott went to great lengths to be able to both put on a show, and have that show be respectable and professional. He did that and then some, and it spread to other circuits. Not all, but many. The A Rig is a tool that could draw the wrong sort of media attention, and, perhaps rightly, bring down the enviro-nazis on the sport. I like to see a picture of someone holding 5 fish caught at the same time because I understand the unique challenge it presents, others will not. Imagine one of us hillbilly types with a big grin, a tmt jersey with a whiskey sponsor, and a fistuful of fish on a PETA poster... Have to keep in mind how it "plays in Peoria".
cullinby9 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 One rod ,one reel ,one line ,one lure. It's the right thing to do for derby fishing imo. As a tournament bass fisherman we are already treading a thin line. People don't want us around their docks, they don't like us running around the lake at 70+ mph. How are they going to feel about 150 boats 2 guys in each casting chandeliers? I hope other organizations follow bass and ban it from competition.
Stump bumper Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 For everyone that has bought one and supports the ban and wants to show their support I will pay $2 plus shipping max $5 for the ones you need to get rid of now. What I fear seeing the most are those once a year fishermen outwith a guide trying to throw one. I would hate to try to get 5 swimbaits out of a guide.
97procraft Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Don't tell Phil about the ban. I plan on using it this weekend in the Masters tournament on Tanny.
Iclass Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Read one comment from a "pro" that said, fish cant help but bite the rig.... That realy fired me up to know that I caught every fish that saw my rig over Christmas. I mean I only covered miles of water with the thing. This rig will soon just be another tool, if you know any old timers get them to tell you about the plastic worm when it first came on the scene... Can any of you imagine the thought of banning the plastic worm, or even outlawing it? That was the talk WAY back in the day. People seem to jump to conclusions before any real research is done. What about the Biosonc/Hydrowave units? I would bet if KVD was the one winning with the A-rig, it would not have been banned! To me the Elites are becoming too elite for their own good, and maybe ours as well.

Bad publicity for tournament fisherman. We are all ready hated.
97procraft Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I agree with Iclass. I am suprised that more people are not mad about a device set into the water that puts out a sound of feeding/scared bait fish being used. The hydrowave, if it really works, should attract more bass than 10 A-rigs.

The hydrowave, if it really works, should attract more bass than 10 A-rigs. If you use the hydrowave the fish still has to bite at a single lure The a-rig is 3-5 lures it increase's the strike zone by by 300 to 500% over a single lure. If it gets the fish exicted is it more likely to strike maybe but it still has to locate a single lure not a ball of swimbaits.
Sprint21fter Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I understand that the Elites have banned the A-rig they also don't allow dip nets to land their fish. It is unbelieveable to see how those elite guys can belly land or grab a 4 plus pound fish and put them into the boat without the getting away. It is hard enough for me to use a dip net by myself to land a big solid fish that is fighting to get away. They are setting the standard of what a professional is supposed to be. However, the A-rig isn't a magic bait that everone can pick any bank and go catch a 15-20lb bag of fish. You still have to go and find the fish to catch the fish. As long as nobody is trolling it behind the boat I wouldn't have a problem with it being allowed in tournament fishing. You will feel like you have thrown 5 deep divers all day long. Not everyone throwing the A-rig is going to catch a huge bag of fish that is still where the ones that can find the fish will always be successful. I would like to see if FLW will ban the A-rig since it exploded on their TV telecasts.

C'mon man, don't be cheap.
