I wasn't familiar with the "A-rig" so I went to look it up.

Ya gotta be kiddn' If someone feels they need to use an A-rig they should just give up and go to the grocery store to get their fish.

May as well use a gill net.

You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

Don't be too quick to judge, I was holding out too, but finally broke down and got one. After throwing it for a half hour and landing two nice keepers I realized I am going to add curls to my work out if I am going to throw that thing for an hour. I had a lot of pain between my wrist and elbow, it is a real man's rig. Now that I say that I will run into a 115lb female on the lake that can throw it for hours. :have-a-nice-day:

This is starting to sound like an "Occupy the A-rig movement"?

Seriously, I don't have a problem with banning it for tournaments. That is strictly up to the individual tournament directors. As far as I know, most have HP limits, but that doesn't mean I can't put twin 250's on my boat and go out and fish for fun!

For those of you who haven't used the A-rig; please don't criticize it's use until you have gone out and thrown it all day! (kinda like the Occupy Wall Street protesters who have never had or looked for a job)

If you catch so many fish that you feel guilty about it, then feel free to comment!

The float n fly can also be a deadly approach at times on this lake. But, not everyone can afford to go out and buy a new 9-10' rod and super line and the fly, floats and swivels, etc.

There have been times (just a few) on Table Rock that I have caught all the fish I could want on the fish doctor or got hooked up on a school of spots with a spoon or drop-shot.

I never once felt guilty or called for the ban on those lures.

Let this thing play out, and we'll see if the State Conservation people feel the need to change the regulations?

Meanwhile, I will keep fishing it when it works, which is not all of the time or in all of the places.

We keep hearing the stories about the big bags it is bringing in.

We don't hear about all of the hours and casts that it didn't produce.

Anybody remember what lure Dean Rojas used when he caught over 100 lbs in a 4 day tournament 10 years ago? Me neither, but I'm pretty sure those lures were not banned!

Gitnby, Dean Rojas caught his fish with one lure, not five.He fished soft plastic texas rigged creature baits. If this Alabama rig was a lure I would have to disagree with any ban. But this thing is not A LURE. Like i stated before its a bunch of lures. Its not an argument on catching too many fish with the bait and banning it. Its a question of sportsmanship. If no one ever caught a fish on the thing I would still be all for banning it. I will never buy one, never fish one. And still criticize it. And for someone to say that this thing is great for fishing is just plain blind. If i was going to get into fishing and then see a 200 boat tournament, with 400 people in it all throwing five baits at once i would be blown away, and would just have to laugh. Good luck out there with your umbrella rig.

Now for fun fishing or pleasure fishing, if you want to fish it, its legal. so go for it. as long as you have three hooks only.

Other than the price, this rig is no different than adding another hook to a drop shot or even fishing a fly with a dropper. I have never heard of people being thought less of because they have a dropper tied on below the dam.

By the way, the only group who banned this rig is the same people who think that using a dip net makes it to easy to catch fish. They also think it is unfair if you show up in a different boat than the one you fished out of last tournament.

I personally think it is banned because Strike King, Mega Bass, or any of the big lure makers didn't come up with it first.

Yeah that's another dumb rule.

97pro Mann's bought the rights to it about as big as it gets in the tackle industry. Bass Pro carries them official sponsor of B.A.S.S the Elite pro's are the ones who wanted the ban. A rule comity made of pro's voted the a-rig and any multiple lure rig out not the people who sponsor the elites.

Comparing the double dropshot to the a-rig is apples to oranges one is a vertical presentation one horizontal plus i have never seen the double dropshot dominate a series of major competitions. The price has nothing to do with it. Throwing 3-5 lures at once is increasing the strikezone to bait ball size.

I question the sportsmanship in using the side imaging, hydrowave, bed fishing.... BUT if I could afford those things I would probably use them too. Sportsmanship is in the eye of the beholder. I've used the rig ALOT the last couple months, had same number of great days as zero days. Have only caught one double, and partner doubled once. Never used the DD22, until two years ago, and have caught MANY doubles since. There is possibility of catching multiple fish with any lure with more than one hook. So I guess we should just use single hooks on any thing we throw to be "sportsmen"
