Been looking to get started in musky fishing and was just wondering if anyone had a favorite place in MO to start off. any random pointers woukd also be helpful.

Also I have seen Pickerel in Montauk State Park, does anyone know how strong populations are in certain stretches of the river and also will a 5 weight flyrod handle a pickerel.

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.

I'm kinda new to Pickeral myself, caught a 20 incher on my 4wt the other day. I'm not sure how big they get, but compared to a 15 inch smallmouth, that one didn't fight near as hard. They do attack the bait however, had one tear up on of my jigs 2 feet from the boat.

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

The only muskies I have heard of are in Fellows and Pomme de Terre lakes.

They have them in one of the Busch Wildlife lakes in STL.

The streamers don't have to be big, though they can be. Have a wide assortment of sizes depending on thier mood, Fish slow to no current areas with plenty of weed beds. I have had luck with fairly eratic retrieves, though not always. If coming to the Eleven Point you should also consider fishing McCormick Lake (7-8 miles north of Greer on 19) for pickerel. Paddle out into the lake and fish back to shore. That lake has a lot of pickerel.
