Quillback Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Jeb has them named, I bet he pulls up and puts one of them boxes in the water they called Flipper with and the bass come to him and say KISS ME KISS ME, lol... Anyway tomorrow will see me killing those evil Geese with the Bows and possibly throwing an A-RIG for stripers, Im thinking Horse Shoe bend and Montne area. Anyone seen any stripers or geese around those areas? Man I wish you could come over here to Bella Vista and thin some of these dudes out.
Guest csfishinfool Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 You're right, sure doubles can and do happen with, say a three treble jerkbait now and then, but not nearly as often as it would with an A-Rig. I think we are both on the same side of the issue, protecting our fisheries. I'm not signing or supporting the petition, but I am open minded to doing so in the future if evidence shows tournaments are using it to the detriment of the fisheries. How about starting a petition to ban tournaments during April and maybe the first 2 weeks of May? I figure all the big bass that get pulled off their beds during these tournaments does more damage than the A-Rig would. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but it seems that way to me. Your right about protecting what we have. But the real reason I would like to see this gone is tournament fisherman, especially at a high level of competition, are supposed to be the best in the world at catching bass. Even before this Rig came out tournament anglers are portrayed as being money hungry, cutting people off down the bank, and disrespecting people who are enjoying the lake. Overall we are protrayed by non-fisherman as having a lack for conservation in general. What is the general public going to think when they see all of these anglers heaving five baits at once. Using ocean fishing equipment to go after freshwater little green fish. How about dock owners when you come by heaving this thing out were the children are going to swim. I really believe that the perception of the sport is going to be affected in a negative way by this lure. Thats my thoughts. Now I really can't see why this bait would hurt fish populations. Unless it becomes clear that fish are being snagged with the other five hooks even after they are hooked by the original lure.
cullinby9 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 If anything the tournaments that allow the a-rig are giving peta bullets for the chamber. The sight of 400 guys heaving around 5 baits will enrage protest from all types of animal cruelty organizations.the petition is started by a pro targeting other pro's and co-anglers in the flw and bass organizations.

I see your point, but IMO it's a fairly weak argument. Most PETA folks don't care if you're fishing with one hook or fishing with five hooks- they want a ban on all fishing, period. And if anglers are genuinely concerned about the impression they make to animal rights groups, they should probably quit pulling fish out of 30+ feet of water, or any number of techniques or activities that can be pretty tough on the fish. All gears and techniques have their pro's and their cons, and all gears and techniques are going to damage fish at one level or another. Whether A-rigs do more damage than other gears I don't know, and I haven't seen enough information one way or the other to make an informed decision, and support banning them or not. <{{{><

Make no mistake about which side I'm on. The petition is to have it banned from major competition and it was not my intention to link it to a question of concern for animal rights groups.that was mearly an observation of the new reality of tournament fishing. When the major circuts show up at Table Rock this thing will be a major factor. 5 lures at once doesn't seem like a sport thats why I signed it.

Goggle-Eyed Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I would think a petition to BAN bed fishing during the spawn would be better!!!
jeb Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I would think a petition to BAN bed fishing during the spawn would be better!!! Have to agree with you there, especially for tourneys where they take the fish so many miles down the lake away from their beds and cause them a lot of stress in the process. Most northern states do not open bass season until after the spawn should be done. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

Funny! The odd thing about the day Jeff/Quillback is talking about is that it was on a Bella Vista lake, which I can't fish by myself as I'm not a property owner in their "village". So I only see those lakes out of the back of Jeff's boat. Jeff is a good fishermen and normally outfishes me, especially out of the front of his boat. They were sure liking that A-rig that day, though. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
