Greasy B Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I’m looking for a used canoe for floating and fishing. An Old Town Penobscot 16, Mohawk Nova 16 or similar canoe would be ideal. A Discovery 169 or 158 would also be an option, even a used rental canoe as long as the lines are true and the price is right. I might consider swapping a used Mohawk Solo 14 as part of the deal. If anyone is interested or has any leads please let me know or PM me. Dan Kreher Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I don't happen to have a used tandem model for sale but I am trying to sell my Wenonah Vagabond solo canoe -- 14.5" Royalex in Arctic White and factory installed skid plates. Boat's in good shape and about 8 years old. $650 asking price vs. $1200 new w/tax. I was planning on listing it here today before I saw your want ad.
Greasy B Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Thanks for the responce, great boat, great price. I'm a pretty big boy who has out grown my solo 14. I got the line on a Kevlar penobscot 16. I figure it will work in all but dead low water, then I can use roylex. Greasy B Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 I'm curious Dan, what are you replacing such a fine boat with? grizwilson Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I have a disco 15'8" in very good shape not sure where to price it, when I first seen the post I was interested in the mohawk, but at 5'10" 250 by the time I added fishing gear and a cooler about maxed. Have heard good things about the Wenonah Vagabond solo canoe but not sure on weight limits. Currently have a pack that is a bit small for my uses Wife says I need to sell before I buy..... “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
gotmuddy Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I have a 16ft buffalo in great shape I may trade everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Dan Kreher Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Currently have two solo canoes -- a Mohawk Solo 14 that I like for overnight camping plus the Vagabond. The Vagabond is great for day trips but I have recently become enamored with the Jackson Coosa sit on top (actually stand on top) kayak. It is made for river fishing and I've seen lots of angler reviews endorsing it as a great craft for smallies. However, my domestic situation requires that I sell one boat before I buy the kayak. Hopefully, I'll find someone looking for a good solo canoe.

grizwilson Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Will try to post pictures over the weekend, Old Town Discovery 158 floated very little, stored indoors, take $550 update SOLD “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Greasy B Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 I ended up getting a sweet deal on a great canoe so I’m out of the market until I can find more storage room. I would have jumped all over a little used 158 a few weeks ago, I think it’s the best boat in the Discovery line. Man, I need a pole barn bad!
