This ought to get you're blood flowing.....I once heard a state worker say we were lucky they don't tax more of our possessions like refrigerators and such..

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The Tennessee Department of Revenue is threatening court action against a Murfreesboro man who built a small wooden boat in his garage with his 7-year-old son.

The state says that makes him a boat dealer and subject to paying extra taxes.

The boat is 14 feet long and made of wood. The family ordered the plans over the Internet because 7-year-old Carter loves to fish with his dad.

I think when they interview for govt. positions that have any kind of regulatory power they require that common sense not be present. Any common sense and you are immediately eliminated from the job pool.

In this case, I must be a large multi corporation. I repair my own cars (mechanic), I repair problems with my sink/toilet/shower (plumber), I have fixed carpet issues (floor layer), I painted the inside of my house (painter), I help my children with homework (teacher), I plugged in all of my appliances (electrician), my wife and I car pool (chauffer), ect. Man! I would go under if I had to pay taxes on all of these 'businesses' that I run. :-)

OK, this article is about "building". I have built birdhouses for my sons, along with pinewood derby cars. Uh' Oh' .....don't tell the govt.....

It's a joke, just the by product of the lack of nuance in bureaucracy. It would get nowhere in a civil or criminal court if it ever made it that far. I won't be losing any sleep over black helicopter dreams.

Then in MO, they should tax the shake and baker's like they do big drug companies. But instead, they give them welfare, food stamps, heating assistance, housing assistance, and other amenities.

As a government employee, I can testify that efficiency, common sense, innovation, and hard work are not what is valued. Mediocrity, teamwork (so you can spread the blame around), and form over function are what's valued.

I gotta wonder if there isn't more to this story. I know we like to decry government workers, but this is so far from common sense that it's almost hard to believe. If you build something, you're not a dealer unless you seek to sell it, and anybody should know that. Gotta wonder if somebody didn't make an enemy somewhere, or something.
