Well this isn't the 1800s, and there's lots of cheap food available. Aren't Ramen noodles are about seven cents each? You can make about ten pounds of spaghetti for the cost of a suspending jerkbait. And if they're so broke, how do they afford gas to get to the river and who bought their boat? I've had enough of the "it's legal" argument. So is adultery.

Most work on the river my Son worked his butt off all Summer made $4K,he is lucky his place is paid for,his family had hard time keeping warm for the simple fact they didn't have Gas to get wood,he did ok cutting all the trees around his house.

I know there is no way understanding this but these people are there.

And who's fault is that, Shot? Or did your child have no other opportunities?

And what's your point, anyway? Are you suggesting that folks keeping a limit of smallies once a week isn't hurting the fishery? Or are you simply okay with some folks raping the resource cause "das awl day gotz"...?

As I've stated before, just cause its not illegal doesn't mean it's right.. Sleeping with your sister is legal too, Oneshot.

Plenty of jobs in the Bennett area pay more.. Copland is ALWAYS hiring, as are most local factories, and they pay a heck of a lot more than the 4k a year (most likely this wasnt his actual income, but what he reported to the IRS, eh?) your son makes by helping others to ruin the river.

I'll gripe all I want, it's my resource too and nothing I am doing is RAPING it, nothing I am doing is RUINING it, nothing I am doing is TAKING IT AWAY from future generations.

Can you and yours say them same? If you ain't a part of the solution, ya know....

Y'all ease up on oneshot.

Seriously though, yeah, with the price of fuel and vehicle wear/tear, living off the land to save money doesn't work unless you are eating out of your own back yard. For what it costs to drive 10 miles to the stream and 10 back home you could buy and prepare a pot of chili and eat on it for 3 days.

darn some Ramen noodles! Who could live on that crap?

Instead of changing the subject take em and introduce them to the concept of self control and why we need to protect smallmouth more than some other fish. I am guilty myself of not speeking up to a friend or aquantice. There is nothing wrong with being ignorant. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, stupidity is ignoring education. Once we have determined someone is stupid then we can give up trying to teach them anything.

Tom,

That is a good point, and i agree totally. I've got several friends I to take that are true sportsman, and one this year that was introduced to the wonderful world of smallmouth for the first time. What I failed to mention about the other guy is that he is a fisherman, but tends to be an outlaw when it comes to rules. He knows better, and can't be taught, which is a sad thing because there's people out there that's just like that. So unfortunately that's the way i've been handling it, be it right or wrong.

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Uh, no it isn't. Doh!

You Lebanon boys...gotta wonder about y'all.

S'what I get for trying to change the saying... :face_palm:

Mosportman, while your concept might be honorable it would never work in the world I know.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I don’t know, I been reading this thread, I chimed in with my own comment that took every bit of 5 seconds thought. I tend to regard Smallmouth Bass with an almost sacred reverence. I think this is mostly due to my experiences when fishing for them; it’s always in a very beautiful place and always with someone who appreciates it. My bias toward protecting Smallmouth Bass is motivated my desire to have these quality experiences continue. In our household we are fortunate to eat fish about once a week, whether these fish are from one body of water or another or of one species or another really doesn’t matter as long as I followed the rules. People are not at fault for taking advantage of game laws as they are, law abiding fisher folks are not the problem, regulations that do not respect the unique qualities of an Ozark stream and the experiences that they afford are the problem.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
