Trout Commander Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 There is also the "Intruder" during the Sringfishing Classic for 49.99, I have 8wt and use it for my bass rod, there is also a 5wt. I would stay away from the Intruder combo. The rods are serviceable and the tubes are fine but both my five and eight weight reels died a very early death. Both unfishable and BPS won't warranty them. They are a little large for paper weights. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. BackCastingGolfer Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Saw there is also the Redington Crosswater during the Fishing Classic for less than 100.
hfdhoosier Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I started out with a complete set up from walmart, then upgraded to a dogwood canyon outfit from bass pro. Both worked great, caught lots of fish. I now have a TFO set up, but still fish with the other set ups once in a while. To me the higher dollar set ups cast a lot smoother and easier but you can catch fish on any rod. Get an inexpensive set up and hook up with someone who has been flyfishing and have them show you the ropes. You will enjoy the flyrod experience. Sharps4590 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Well sonny-gun oneshot!!! I see you're over here too, good to see ya!! You ever get a fly rod? Good advice here too! I'd rather live my entire life, living as if there is a God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there isn't, than to live my entire life as if there is no God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there is.

Greasy B Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Mr. Shot, Yea, yapping with the guys may be a great time, especially if they’re not getting all sour, but I’m not so sure of their abilities to cut through the fly fishing bull. They lay you to believe that you need expensive equipment and a bazillion flies. Not true, all you need is a pair of waders a rod, reel and a line with a leader with a fly attached, it matters not what quality or price, heck it probably doesn’t matter what fly you have tied on. Start at the 64 bridge, walk out about knee deep and toss the line and fly across the river as best you can, let the current grab it and swing the fly down until it is hanging in the current below you, let it sit for a bit and if you don’t feel the tug of a fish take a step or two down river and cast again. It’s that simple. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

It’s that simple. Yep. My fly fishing mantra is keep the fly in the water and let the fish take care of the rest. Whenever I try to get fancy it just backfires and I end up making stupid mistakes. And when I do that I get frustrated, and don't usually catch very many fish.
