fishinwrench Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I hear they are good eating? Anyone ever try em? I just biased because i grew up around trout and salmon, so carp was considered trash in my family. 30 years later and I still haven't ever even tasted it. Yeah well I grew up around Catfish, Bass, and Carp..... and I don't care what anyone says, Carp are still trash fish. I'm not cleaning and eating them as long as there are more palatable alternatives. No matter how disgusting something is there will always be some people who swear that it is the most delicious thing you've ever put in your mouth. To each their own.

To each their own. Yeah but some are better or worse than others. It's pretty universally accepted that robster craw dericious.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I don't think a lot of people would have a problem with it. They buy mercury laced Atlantic salmon and Tilapia that is probably raised in sewer ponds in SE Asia. I don't, but many do. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Tom Tricamo Posted March 6, 2012 Members Posted March 6, 2012 ^ bingo. Compared to what pigs and chickens eat, Asian Carp feed pretty "clean". Secondly, Asian Carp filter feed, which is a bit different than domestic carp. Lastly, the primary issue with using the fish for food, aside from the negative stigma, is the fact that fish is extremely bony. There is far less mercury in Asian carp because it's a filter feeder. Just thought I'd put some facts out there. Oh, and tilapia is the most disgusting fish to eat. I can't believe we've been conned into buying it as table fare.
Seth Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I can tell you guys haven't tried asian carp. The meat is delicious but the bones pose a problem. What we did was pressure cook the fillets down with Lawry's seasoning salt and lemon pepper to dissolve the bones followed by mixing egg and crackers together to form fish patties. Vacuum seal two to a pack and when you are ready to eat, just open a froen pack, toss in a little olive olive oil and basically just heat the up and crisp to your liking and enjoy. I had them fried once where the guy was able to get most of the bones removed except for one set of big bones that you could easily pull out before eating. The carp was WAY better eating than the channel cat that we fried up at the same time.
fishinwrench Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 There you have it. So are you ready to dis catfishing and start targeting asian carp? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Seth Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Depends on the catfish. If it's blue or flathead then no, if it's channels then please pass the carp!

Drbucketmouth57 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 this pretty well splains it a : morally despicable or abhorrent <nothing is so vile as intellectual dishonesty> b : physically repulsive : foul <a vile slum> 2 : of little worth or account : common; also : mean 3 : tending to degrade <vile employments> 4 : disgustingly or utterly bad : obnoxious, contemptible <vileweather> <had a vile temper> I`ve been called this before!!
