moguy1973 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 We are thinking about floating this stretch on the meramec on Monday. Is it a worthwhile stretch to fish this time of year or should we do robertsville to Catawissa or palisades? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 When you say Rt 66, you mean Rt. 66 state park? I don't know about anything further upstream but I went there last 2 times. First time I had no luck, 2nd time caught a small spotted bass at the end of the day. So I personally didn't have much luck, but I'm still an amateur and I fish from the bank, so I don't know what your luck is like from the boat. I did see someone catch a nice channel catfish though (hooked them on the whiskers too). I also arrived both times around early afternoon, so that might explain my lack of action, as the one I did catch, I got as the day was winding down. Unfortunately can't compare it to the other option as I never fished in either of those spots, or the Allenton access.
moguy1973 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 Yeah, it's about a 6 mile float from Allenton to rt66 st park. We'll either do that or the float from robertsville to Catawissa. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Greasy B Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I ways enjoyed that float, you pass the mouth of Big River. Whenever I pass the juction of two streams I can't help but look up the tributary and wonder about all the miles of floating adventure it has. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
moguy1973 Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 River came up too much last week to allow us to float on Monday. But we did hit a local lake in the kayaks and caught some really nice fish -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Thanks for the update. What lake? if you don't mind.
