Senko Colors

Trying to figure out what to pack for our trip to your beautiful lake the first week of April. I'm thinking with the warm temps we are having this week and next, that the fish might be on a Senko bite. Anybody want to give up what colors you prefer to throw here?I guess it might differ if you are fishing up the James, or fishing in the clearer water of the white river. I know the weather could change, but it's always hard trying not to bring everything you own on a trip like this. Thanks.

Year in, year out, soft plastics on this lake should include smoke, water melon seed, junebug, and pbj. Now many will claim water melon candy or water melon red are better than watermelon seed. Others will say green pumpkin over pbj. So I guess I should say smoke, greenish, blueish, and brownish.

A good fifth choice for muddy water and sight circumstances would be pearl (or blue pearl or lemon pearl)

Bring your favorite 10 colors. Throw the one that looks best for the water you are in. I've caught a few nice fish of all three species of bass at TR on Senkos, but it wasn't magic or a secret color.

They make them in another color besides watermelon seed?? As far as Pearl goes that is my go to color on flukes and usually pays off when the bite is slow on watermelon so guess it would be the same for senkos.

I also like the smoke on a 3in grub on Pea gravel banks so don't know why that wouldn't be good on a senko, but every time I pick up senkos they are watermelon seed. When a cold front or a bluebird day or anytime the fish move deep you can't find a better search lure then dragging those grubs across gravel points on TR but never works for me on Beaver for some reason.

I've been fishing Senkos a lot the last year or so, wacky rigged. I like the Yamamotos, in GP, smoke, and black, with any variation of flake. If you're going to wacky rig, get some 3/8" heat shrink tubing, cut it into 1/4" sections, thread a Senko into each section, shrink the tubing to a tight fit, and run your hook through the tubing and Senko when ready to fish. This works much better than using the rubber O-rings as far as increasing the durability of a GYCB Senko.

Anything in shades of greens or browns works. I like hints of purple mixed in on the greens/browns myself but probably just a confindence/superstitious thing more than what the bass want.

Thanks for the replies so far. WHat about size? I find up here in Michigan, that I have been throwing the larger six inch version to target bigger fish, and at times, have even used 7 inchers(they are a load!). This is when I'm targeting largemouths. For smallmouths, I'll use a 4 inch size quite a bit, sometimes with a Gamagatsu red wacky hook, or using a nail weight in one end and fishing what I think is called a neko rig. Anyone trying that?
