Members zonker Posted March 22, 2012 Members Posted March 22, 2012 That's one sweet spot to camp, RE: Gavin's pic. If that one's taken, there's a smaller bar between Little Hurricane and Turners on the right side that's a good one too. Pic attached.
eric1978 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I'll play. An island a few miles above MD. Can't remember exactly.
ColdWaterFshr Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 There's all kinds of good spots. It doesn't have the usual massive gravel bars of many ozark streams, but the floaters guide book makes it sounds like there isn't any. Not true.
Members Jeff_L Posted March 22, 2012 Author Members Posted March 22, 2012 Thanks. I have Google earthed it and there appear to be several good options. We will have 20 - 25 floaters (here's the warning to all of you expecting solitude that Friday), so I don't like to leave it to chance that there will be an open spot that is big enough for all of us. Most of us are experienced floaters, but we always have a couple newbies. I've read that Mary Decker isn't that tricky, is that right? We will probably camp above it just to make sure nobody is sleeping in a soggy tent anyway.
Mark Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Since the last big flood that moved some boulders around a little, Mary Decker is not a major obstacle. Jet boat traffic doesn't get heavy until below Turners. Halls Bay, a 1/8 mile section that borders on Class 3 rapids with a turn at the end, about 2 miles from Riverton, can be an exciting run at the end of the trip.
Members Jeff_L Posted March 22, 2012 Author Members Posted March 22, 2012 After doing Upper Buffalo last May in the middle of hail and 3" of rain the weekend of the Joplin tornado...nothing seems like too big of a deal.
podum Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I see you . . . I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
