Members KansasBoy13 Posted March 26, 2012 Members Posted March 26, 2012 Was wanting to get a new tent then got an email on this tent. http://www.cabelas.c...%3Bcat110647980 Seems like a great deal for sure. Anyone have any history with Kelty tents? We would probably be more along the lines of what I would call 'fair weather' camping. Probably wouldnt be out in strong winds or much rain.
fishinwrench Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 No experience with Kelty, never even heard of them until now. That "normal suggested retail price" they show is a crock though. If you are going to buy a cheap tent I can tell ya that we bought a 40.00 Ozark trails tent at wal-mart for the kids, they tried to destroy it.....and have failed. When we bought it we didn't expect it to last more than the one trip, but it has since been on more than a dozen and it still lives.
eric1978 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Kelty makes decent stuff - not the best and not the worst - but that's a good price for that tent. Never buy any outdoor gear without checking Sierra Trading Post first. It's possible they'll have something comparable to that Kelty for half of what Wrench paid for his buddy brand leak factory.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Eureka Timberline if you're not going to carry it. Probably the most popular tent going considering how long it's been around. I've had mine in all kinds of weather and never a problem. Goes up easy also. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Kelty is not bad stuff at all. They sell alot of lightweight camping items (backpacking) and are not very expensive. (not cheap). I typically use midgrade items. No matter what you buy tent wise, seal all seams. I would buy this tent if I was in the market, but Eric may be on to something also. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
Stoneroller Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Kelty makes good gear for the price. and considering most (MOST) people with a north face or patagonia jacket think 'outdoors' is when they walk to their SUV... I don't really see the point in overpaying for the top priced gear. going to everest or just independtly wealthy? sure. otherwise get the best you can afford, but always look for deals first. campmor.com might have some too. Sierra trading post is my other 'go to' place. Just pay attention if it's OVERSTOCK or FACTORY 2ND'S.. you may not want the later in a tent. also NEVER trust 'factory sealed seams'. Take the time to seal them yourself with the proper sealant for the type of tent material your tent is fabricated from. There IS a specific sealant for each of the main types of material.
