Bill Babler Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I will be the first to say i just blew this deal.. Had no idea these guys would keep on keepin on. How many 20 pounds bags on the last day? two or 3 I think. I guess Long Creek was the deal, in the murkey water. Just a whisker under a 20 pound a day average for 4 days. And it was not just one dude. It was 3. I'm keepin my guesses to myself from now on. They will tear up Beaver in a month on Post Spawn fish on the A-Rig. Bet it will be the biggest weight derby wise in the history of the pond. Be interesting. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Now it brings up the question about which area of the lake has the biggest fish. Before this I would have said the dam area, with Kimberling or Baxter close behind. Now I am not sure they are that close behind. Maybe I need to go to Long Creek a little more often. May and June should be really interesting with the wires and coming tweaks to them. So far we have really just seen it fall through early spring. Could be nuts-o on the post spawn grub places. Interesting that the flip bite held up for the winner with them pulling water. Expected that to kill it, but did not seem to.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 The Kentuckys will be suspended on Beaver by then and the Smallies will be down by the dam Water temp this morning at 6am was 68.5 by 11 when i left it was 73.4. Im betting the winner on Beaver will be upriver on the Blacks. But will not be suprised to see some monster smallmouth. No shad kill this winter has really put some weight on fish this year. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Bill Babler Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 Long Creek is not that big, and those fish can vanish faster than a hundred dollar bill at the Candelstick. You get a load of guys in there and it changes everythng, and as Brent Long said the water is clearing really fast and that more than anything was the deal to fish stained water, as the fish tried to move up. He also said he was fishing in front of the bushes and deeper, on steeper banks, not the traditional spawning pockets cause the water was just dropping to fast. On the steeper stuff, he thought it gave the fish a very good chance to move up and down more comfortablly. Took me 2 seconds on video to see where he was yesterday, and know the exact location. I never fish there. Just goes to show. Course with me, that is a knarelly, hangup nightmare and for guiding, that can be a problem. If you are a professional fisherman, not so much. How ever you cut it, they did real good. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
CaptainJoe Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Clevenger Cove Island to Red Bluff to Brushy and Little Brushy Creeks were the most productive areas followed by cuts, pockets, and small coves from Points 4 to 6. Cole Spring Hollow and that area was hot on day 1, but the stained water kept moving North and it became unproductive on Day 2. Most productive baits in order:Black/Blue Jig, Rapala DT 6 and 10, Wiggle Wart - Fire Tiger, Flippin small Creature Baits, Alabama Rig, and some spinnerbaits. The Alabama Rig was most productive in the clearer water from Points 4 to 6. Flippen: on the banks and in the bushes. Crankbaits: Normal bank line. Some site fishing when they were able to see a bed, but not much due to the heavily stained water. Water was dropping fast every day. Red Bluff area produced several 6 pound fish from Brent Long and Stacey King's 8 pounder came off Oasis Point. Visibility: 1-3 feet. Water temps range over 4 days: 68-77. Airs: May 6th on NBC Sports Network. Captain Joe Hreha Owner of MO Fenchbulldogs.com; Captain Joe's Guide Service (Retired); OAF Contributor; & Captain, U. S. Bill...seems like it would be easy for those fish in Long Creek to just slip back out into deep water any time they wanted to, leave you looking at a pretty bank with a jig rod in your hand. Looked like Shuffield might have been back towards Kimberling, maybe Spring Branch. A little tough to tell from the streaming feeds.
Sprint21fter Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 On the final day post on FLW, they said Shuffield was fishing the cow creek area.
buckcreekmike Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I was at Big Cedar (Wilderness Club) from Wednesday to Sunday, and I was surprised by the lack of tourney rigs I saw, or boats in general for that matter considering it's not far from the State park where this thing was held out of. I also couldn't the mudddy water when I showed up, 1' visibility. I got out at about noon on Wednesday and didn't catch anything, though I broke off on one and lost a couple of bites. But that afternoon I went out with my Father in Law at about 4:00 and we were skunked after going way back into larger creek (I forget the name) looking for spawners, but it was dirty as all get out, so didn't see any. Then about 5:30 I pulleda along a bluff that ended and went into a shelf rock transition pocket and i caught 4 keepers and lost another and he caught one keeper, and not ot mention we had at least 6-8 shorts in about 45 minutes all from a 50 yard stretch, all on a wiggle wart. That ws some of the best fishing I've had south of Canada in my life. Next day we caught a few, not many keepers, but all off of a wiggle wart in the same general area as Big Cedar, not more than three miles away anyway. That night was capped off with a 20lb flathead on a wiggle wart over 30' of water, that was a first for me! Next day more of the same, but father in law did land a 24" walleye on a wiggle wart. Did I mention we were using wiggle warts!? Last day (Saturday, didn't fish Sunday) headed toward the dam and found some clearer water and landed a 19" smallie followed quickly by a 16" spot in the morning about 7:45. Fished the rest of the morning until 12:00 and lost another nice sized spot right near the dam and that was it for the the trip. I gotta say I love Table Rock. I sometimes hear complaints about pressure or boat traffic, but in my opinion that lake is fishing awesome, and the variety and quality is very high. Apparently I was unknowingly fishing the area that the tourney was won in, and I can believe it. I really only got to fish about 5-6 hours a day split up into two separate outings, and never first thing in the morning, so I can only imagine what if I had! I know it's easy for me to say, but all you guys that call that lake your home lake, don't take it for granted, it is awesome and I really need to get there more often.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 On the final day post on FLW, they said Shuffield was fishing the cow creek area. Cow was my next guess. Didn't look like Little Cow as he ran in. Not the right docks. Did anyone see him take something (bug?) in the glasses on the run back? Hard to hear over the motor and wind but you could tell something wasn't right.
