Mitch f Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Title app? Bill of sale? DMV? For a canoe? Hopefully you're jesting. If not, then, well, hmm, ...good luck! "Leads?! That's about the funniest scene ever! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 OK, so to summarize what I've read from the original post. Buyer DOES want to motor it. TITLE and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED in MO. There are many ways of accomplishing this. Yours seems to be the correct way to get a title. I don't believe that the ladies were being female dogs in this instance. (many times they are guilty). Now looking at the whole scenario, you have owned the watercraft for (X) number of years, the State wants tax dollars. You are not required to title it if you are going to paddle it, but if you motor it, your required. ( I know I'm beating a dead horse here). Now, you want a title on property that has been owned for (x) number of years, but has not been taxed because it was not required to be. I would ask the lady at the license bureau if I could title beginning today due to the law stating that I don't have to title if I am not using a motor, and have not used one. This may be the way to save you the late charge of $30.00, and also make it to where you do not owe for back taxes. You would still have to pay for title fees etc. just my 2 cents. I recently registered a 10' jon boat because I would like to put a trolling motor on it. I had to file for an abandoned property title, go through highway patrol and all. It was a mess, but I was able to get through it. Took about 6 months. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Wayne SW/MO Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I don't believe they issue the manufacturers paperwork that leads to a title on canoes. I'm sure one would be offered if you lived in a state that required it. I would call the companie and ask if they would issue you one if you prove ownership. It might be a waste of time, but maybe not as long as it has a serial #. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
OzarkFishman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Billethead, You should be able to sign a General Affidavit stating that you did not put a motor on the canoe. That affidavit combined with the original bill of sale should be enough to get the boat titled for the guy that bought it from you (and save you $$, as in $0). The ladies at the DMV had to call in to Jefferson City to verify that this was good enough ... IT IS!!! OzarkFishman PS - I recently was the guy buying the non-titled boat.
BilletHead Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 I was right as I thought, reinforced by moguy off to the DMV this morning. Action and a decision was decided. I was in a bit of a tiff leaving the house this morning. Got there when they opened and first thing when the nice DMV lady said "uh oh what's wrong" I say what I thought yesterday was right and what we did was not right. She says "That's what I thought but you heard my supervisor and I had to do what she said, I will let you deal with her" Supervisor senior DMV lady says Oh all you can do is fill out form 426 and see if they will send you some money back but you will still loose 6 bucks for a special admin fee. Filled out form, left with no apology and more papers in my hand. Get home and call buyer. I could tell by his voice it was like the wind had suddenly left his sail. He said I would send you half, no all of the money you are out. His DMV on his end has him convinced he had to have a title. By now I am feeling bad about getting everyone stirred up including myself I have to make a call on what to do. This buyer and I have a mutual friend that Mrs. BilletHead and I think the world of. Plus the buyer is one ace of a guy I have learned. So A call to the local DMV, get the nice lady that calls me hun. Tell her to shread up form 426 that I will eat the cost and get a title to buyer instead of a bill of sale. She says I knew you were right and I am sorry this happened. This is what I needed and wanted to hear.Call buyer back and told him what I did, he says I am going to send you money. Nope we will fish together some day and laugh about this. All is well. I beleve what goes around comes around. Our actions and how we treat and SPEAK to each other online or offline will affect us on judgement day. Ness is right we live and learn so it is now onward and upward. OzarkFishman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Glad you are getting it all figured out ... My only concern is that every DMV office answers these questions differently (and many workers in these specific buildings seem to have differing opinions as well). It happens everywhere, but knowing proper protocol for most (if not all) of one's job description should be a little more normal these days. ..... was that a soap box I just stepped down off of ..... EVERYONE HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 GOOD MAN!! You are one of many, but who do not get the respect desereved. Yes, what comes around will surely come around. Sometimes we are able to see the blessings, some times we are not, but it will come back to help you in life. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Wayne SW/MO Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 It happens everywhere, but knowing proper protocol for most (if not all) of one's job description should be a little more normal these days. Most, if not all, of these are contract DMV's. If you know the right people in Jeff City you can get one, no experience necassary. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
