Gavin Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks gents...it was a great day. My canoe needs some repairs so I rented one from Sheldon at Route 66 on the Big Piney. Small operation but very friendly..Did the 8 miles back down to his place...in 5 hours...Coulda done it in an hour if I wanted to yesterday. That old Osage handled pretty well. The jig was a just a white 1/2oz Swim Jig with a White 4" Zoom Fat Albert Curly Tail on the back. I was fishing it like a spinnerbait..Started with a 1/4 or 3/8oz White Spinnerbait and caught 8-10...but I wasnt getting down fast enough...The swim jig was the heaviest thing I could find in my tackle bag. Bought it for pond greenies...but it worked yesterday. Not a great numbers day...maybe two dozen, broke a rod, lost the handle on one of my baitcasters, but no complaints! Just an excuse to buy better stuff.

Mitch f Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Beautiful pics, I can almost feel the cool breeze! That's just a beautiful river and great fish! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
cwc87 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Andy is a interesting fellow with a nice location to fish. I usually hit that stretch n September. Congrats on ur fish!
RSBreth Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Nice! That'll teach you to put some heavy compact spinnerbaits in your bag, but then again the jig worked, right? You might try some 3" or 4" swim baits as trailers for swim jigs - I like them better than grubs in faster water - actually the fish like them better.
ColdWaterFshr Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Wow!! Nice fish Gavin. Looks like you had a great time.
G-ROD Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Very nice! -------------------- Mo Smallmouth Hunter Gary
