I live 20 minutes from BPS in Olathe, KS and around 40 minutes from the Kansas City, KS Cabela's. I regularly shop both stores but have found Cabela's to be the better stocked store for all around outdoor activities. Cabela's definitely caters to those of us who, along with Black Bass, Crappie, & Catfish, fish for other species of fish like Walleye, Pike, Musky, and Striper. I've purchased all of my Walleye St Croix spinning rod's at this store -- they have a very good selection!

I was just there yesterday and picked up more lures (like I don't already have enough!) to take down to BL the first week of June.

The KC store sq/ft is a bit misleading. I would venture to say that 20 to 35% of it is dedicated to things other than merchandise. This includes the Kansas Mule Deer museum, kids indoor shooting gallery, and other areas not pertinent to selling merchandise. While these areas add to the ambiance they do in fact take up a lot of the 180K sq/ft the store. So -- a 100K sq/ft store may sound small to you guy's as compared to other stores around the country but it really will come down to how well the lay it out. Consider yourselves lucky to have one going in nearby!

Here's a tip that I found has saved me a lot of money at both stores. Before you run down there and spend all your hard earned $$, first check their sales online. Many, many times, I've found the price in the store does not reflect the bargain they have it listed for online. Print a copy of the online merchandise and take it with you, they have to honor it!

Keep a tight line!

I went to the first day of interviews and must have been a 100 people there and everyone wanting to work in the fishing department. I also was there and got 5 questions straight from anger management text books, drug test and we will let you know.

Really disappointed there was no one even trying to asses product knowledge or experience other than running a cash register and how do you get along with humans. Guess when you have to screen thousands of applicants that is all you have time to do.

Did anyone else attend an interview? I was told staff training and store set up would start in 3 to 4 weeks so guess the store will not open until July.

I was thinkig about shooting them a resume, but I think I'll wait a while after hearing that. I'd like to work there weekends.

Just wrote a quick update for 40/29 News tonight on the progress of the new Cabela's store. And in talking with the corporate office this morning here are some of the nuggets I learned.

-Construction is on schedule

-Grand opening date is not set, but it will be this summer. They usually announce the date 8 weeks out.

-The store will employ appx. 175 people and right now they are still looking at applications and sending out job offers.

-They are working on grand opening events right now that will include speakers, giveaways, outdoor personalities and family events.

I'll pass along any new info I get.

Ron it will be on at 5pm, but just about everything Cabela's gave me was in my prior post. You guys got the sneak peek! Nothing earth shattering, just trying to update those looking forward to the stores opening.
