cnr Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I use a 3/0 offset shank hook and fish it unweighted and straight. I have also found in clear water the Smallies shy a little from a wide gap hook so I fish the traditional 3/0 offset shank worm hook that keeps the hook shank close to the body of the Fluke when rigged. The wide gap hooks project away from the Fluke and seem to negatively affect the fish. Found this out the hard way when my fishing partner was outfishing me 3 to 1 when I was using wide gaps and he was not. I switched over to a traditional hook and started to have more action. I was still outfished :-) but not by as much!
Gavin Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Will have to try the offset worm hook..usually rig my flukes on an unweighted 4/0 EWG...If I'm getting hits but not hooking up...I change colors, or switch to a shallow suspending jerkbait like the LC Flash Minnow 110. I carry Pearl, Glimmer Blue, Pearl/Chart Tail, Pink, and Houdini.

Gavin Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I havent tried either of those colors. I'm sure they will eat em.
moguy1973 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I've read, and may try this year, using a 3/0 "Z" bend hook on my flukes. The "Z" bend helps keep the bait up on near the eye of the hook without sliding down... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

et84 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Weightless, Jack. T-rigged. And twitch it like a crackhead. Looks like I'm alone in that I prefer the 4" flukes, but I buy mine from a small plastics company and they're a little meatier than the typical 4"ers you see. Eric, if I'm gonna use flukes, I prefer the 4"ers as well....... and yes, I twitch it like a crackhead. "Sometimes it seems like such a hard life, but there's good times around the bend. Greasy B Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Mitch's Clearwater craw is my favorite.....soon to be available at Bulls Eye Bait and Tackle Mitch, can you elaborate on the Clearwater Craw? His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Mitch f Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Mitch, can you elaborate on the Clearwater Craw? About a year ago I started making this craw, not quite ready for prime time yet but soon. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
