Members Zeke Kuehn Posted May 16, 2012 Members Posted May 16, 2012 Crane is fishing very hard, the water is very low similar to what was seen during July and August. Attractors and Hare's Ears working when you manage to put the sneak on these spooky fish. I hope we can get some rain soon to carry this fishery through the summer. Stoneroller Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 if people aren't worried about the complete lack of rain this spring, they will be in another month when we are in some really serious trouble. The watershed I frequent is setting daily ALL TIME low flow records that are less than half of the previously recorded low flow. Very concerning as low water not only concentrates the fish, but also concentrates toxins, it warms faster, holds less oxygen, provides less habitat, etc etc. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Greasy B Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I for one am deeply disturbed about the lack of water in our rivers. The only positive I can think of is maybe just maybe if it gets low enough all the recreational jet boaters on the Gasconade and Meramec will rip the bottoms out if their boats this summer. Heck most of them are clueless about running the river anyway, they can't read the water all they can do is push down the throttle. fishinwrench Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Crane has seen alot worse droughts than it'll see this year. In the past I've seen it all but dry, to the point where there was barely a wet spot between puddles....and miraculously 2 years later it was full of trout, including some big ones (16"+). That's why I have a hard time buying the claim that it hasn't been stocked since the horse&buggy days. LOL

lee G. Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Is this a local thing? The Gasconade has been running good all spring.

I didn't intend to highjack this one. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. lee G. Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I think a thread on water levels might be of interest, GB, and sorry, I wasnt clear that i meant rainfall, not Crane vs Gasconade.
