oneshot Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 It is interesting how we have some species snobbery in the US, like Stoneroller said, they are the #1 sportfish in Europe. Granted they are not native to the US, but they are here to stay. I look at Gar the same way. I see them as an absolutely amazing fish. I am also glad to see them restoring Alligator Gar in Mingo Wildlife refuge (since we are talking about "rough fish") Weren't carp originally introduced to the US as a food source? 1877 brought in as a Food Source. oneshot
Feathers and Fins Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Strange you really want funny.... Tarpon and Bonefish are two of the most sought after fish and Neither are fit table fair! They would be called a rough fish if they were in freshwater. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Yes to the introduction. You're right about the snobbery also, our carp came from Germany, and so did the brown trout. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
BadKarma Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 My Dad was born and raised here in Taney County as was I, and we always cleaned and ate what we caught, including Gar and the Carps. I can remember Dad cleaning a Gar that was long enough to hang over the sides of the tailgate of the truck!!!!! Don't worry about life, your not going to survive it anyway. Go fishing instead.
David Unnerstall Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I am in no way a fish snob. But those scales on carp just give me the willies.

LOL, they can be a little unnerving, especially the mirror carp (they look like a carp with warts) I also like the whole redfish/gamefish in saltwater, drum/trashfish everywhere else thing, that is funny.
